I wonder....... How many people do not comprehend that if you get more money back on your tax return.... than was taken out of your check..... you pay no taxes at all and as a matter of fact are being given money that was taken from someone else and given to you.

I am ok with those in the low income bracket not paying taxes.... but what i have a problem with is someone being withheld $2000 in taxes and getting a $4000 tax return. Most will defend their status as a tax payer and say things like..... I got 4 kids , I got this deduction and that deduction..... and will never accept that if you get back more than you put in..... you are not a taxpayer

I have been hanging around thinking about launching a thread about her and her mother on potential federal tax evasion. As a Maid, Cleaner of toilets or Bartender; all three jobs offer and enable the potential of not declaring all of your income. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has already been caught by the media in that she claims she was poor and grew up in the Bronx. Not true. Since 1992 the Ocasio-Cortez family owned two residences; one in the Bronx and the other at 1965 Longvue Street, Yorktown Heights New York 10598. I have a copy of the Westchester County Indenture in which Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez signed off on 24Oct2016 as residing there. She also was reported not sharing tips with some of the waitresses equally.

So as part owner of that property along with Mom, the home in Yorktown Heights is sold and Mom buys a fixer upper home in Lake County, Florida and closed on the property on January 5, 2017. Mom does this all before the age of 55 and seem to now be in retirement. Must be nice. So the Ocasio-Cortez family owned two residences in New York State since 1992 with an annual property tax bill of over $10,000 annually. The daughter goes on to Boston University at an after financial assistance aid awards cost of $35,000 a year, on average.

So you can you all of the above driving a Bus , Cleaning Toilets and tending bar? Really. I still have student loans that I am paying and I clean my own toilets, cook and mow the lawn as I do not have a Cleaner or Maid.

Seems to me that declarations of income to the IRS may have been light over the years as the numbers just don't add up. I or anyone can file and get a % of any funds owed the IRS by submitting

FORM 3949-A
(April 2016)
Department of the Treasury - Internal Revenue Service
Information Referral

Oh. I don't trust anyone. When you see the documents print them out. Screen shots can disappear from your electronic records like magic. Then mail copies of the copies to several Senators in both parties before even writing on sites like ATS. CYA.

I agree, the future will be interesting.

I am just trying to go down a road of 'what if'. What if we want to reform our society. What if we view the concentration of wealth in the hands of the unscrupulous as a possible determinant to a fair society. Do we even care? Should the smart and prepared just sit back and say "I'm good in this depression/recession and I will use the rest of you as entertainment"?

Simply asking what if appears to be upsetting people. Maybe the questions are wrong. If you wanted to create a moral and level playing field, how would you do it? Do you just go pure capitalism and remove all constraints. Do you care if the majority of the wealth is concentrated into the hands of the few. How do these 'hands of the few' use their wealth. Is it even right to ask what they are doing with their wealth. Should I just suffer the consequences because I am not as intelligent or amoral to complete the tasks necessary to bring in that wealth? Is wealth in itself punishment enough.

I understand the classical economics that inflation is money velocity, scarcity and/or demand. Do you still think that is in play today? What is money? Isn't money in today's world simple debt? So there is no set quantity or controls left on the money supply that is now exploding 0s & 1s. How much debt have we created since 2008? Wouldn't that possibly swamp the old rules of inflation?

I am not really hurting at all financially. I could just sit back and enjoy the show for the most part. I have no confidence my 401k will be there when I am ready to retire. If it is still there, it has been devalued by at least 80% and will buy me a loaf of bread. But I live frugally and have no debt outside of a very cheep mortgage. I like to save. I don't view my house as an appreciating asset, but as a place to live. I sit and watch the skyrocketing price increase of the houses around me and in my town with dismay. I hear the stories of the next generation having issues finding an affordable home and are forced to rent instead, working the same job I am. But I guess I just got lucky when I bought cheap 20 years ago. I've got mine, screw them?

I understand the very dangerous road of taxation and good intentions leading to a steaming pile of wreckage. If you had to go down that slippery and unpalatable road, are there any novel ideas that we could try, just in the land of what if. Could you setup or manage a society of morality and fairness, or will the top percentage of wealth holders always accumulate the assets in any situation and you will only hurt the overall population with regulation? Is there any way to introduce morals while respecting complete free will? Where does my free will end and yours being? If I need to use the same fiat as the corrupt system, do I have the right to want change?

I’d say now it’s more the top 1% or a fraction of that. Us incomes are surprisingly not as high as people would expect, and the top 10% of earners actually only make just over $100k. That actually puts me pretty close, and I sure as hell don’t feel wealthy or even close to it. But if my labor wasn’t taxed I’d feel a lot richer!

perhapse more like the top 1%, of the 1%. the average family income of the 1% in the US is only $421,926. and of course being an average that means many of the 1% don't even earn close to that. since someone who say makes $10 million a year rather raises the average significantly. i bet if you actually looked into it you would find that there are only a few hundread people in the country that earn more than $500,000/year. that certainly is not going to really add that much money in taxes when all is said and done. especially when those that ARE the ones that earn in the millions per year would likely just move to somewhere with far less taxes, and renounce their citizenships. not only removing their expected tax money that Cortez expects. but removing their money even more completely from the US economy. it's like in a discussion about a basic wage for everyone to pay i did some math, and if the 1%[/] were expected to finance it, even just a small amount like $500/month for everyone. most of the 1% earners would be paying MORE than they even earn. and even dividing that small amount out down through the percentages of income

and if you want to be intelectually honest about things, most of those that do in fact make the saleries in the millions per year would not even be paying anywhere near what this idiot Cortez thinks they would be. and the reason is quite simply that they have incorporated themselves and/or businesses, and only draw a fraction of those earnings as income to be taxed. and you can be sure that if Cortez were to get her wish, that most of the richest that she wants to steal from would only be earning (for tax purposes), under the threshold of that tax. and those who did end up paying the tax, would just pass that tax increase down to those they earn money from in the form of price increases.

and before people start on saying that we need to get rid of the ability to incorporate, the reason it happened was due to things like taxes that were intended to take more and more money from the rich, that actually hurt the middle classes and below quite badly. things like inheratance taxes. i have a friend who's family incorporated their family's farm. a farm that had been in the family for generations. this was done because the inheritance taxes would have meant that they would need to SELL their land to pay those taxes. and we are not talking about something like a 10.000 acre ranch. but an old small family farm. in fact a farm not even near big enough to earn a living off of. in fact they have a farmer that leases their farm as well as several others like it in order to earn a living. with the rent (something people are saying needs to be taxed all on it's own) being paid, basically being enough to cover just the land taxes. by incorporating the farm, they are able to keep it in the family and have a home to live in. a home and property that would have been long lost to the family because of taxes meant to take money from the rich. since there is no way they could have afforded to pay that inheritance tax. and when it comes to money in the bank all you have to do to avoid paying an inheritance tax is to put your benifactors on the acount as signatories. since legally any mony in a bank account is legally OWNED by everyone who is listed on that account. in other words there is no earning, or gaining that money, because it already belongs to you, no matter who put that money into the account.

From what I can see, she's simply saying that people earning 10 million dollars a year should be getting taxed 70%... Why on earth would anyone be against that!?!

!0 million minus 70%, is still like 3 million dollars clear... Or around 57 thousand a week! What's wrong with some people? Is it a case of stockholm syndrome to your ridiculously wealthy overlords or something?

I don't care what anyone says... There's no one person on this earth, whose actual worth to society is more than 50k a week.

What you don't get, like all dingbat leftists, is that this "proposal" will directly harm the economy and actually reduce IRS revenues and US economic growth.

Once the say 40% rate is reached, businesses and individuals will throttle back, reducing/capping US economic growth which is bad for everyone.

Your Barmaid hero just thinks people will fork over THEIR money and work for her.

If a startup entrepreneur sells his business for $100 Million, he should turn over 70 Million to your hero Cocktail Waitress so she can spend it on the next Solyndra ?

Not gonna happen !

People will simply move/base businesses overseas - In Canada, the corp tax rate is 15% for example.

Deny stupidity (and jealousy).

None of what you just said is true.

Higher taxation on the wealthiest among us isn't going to hurt everyone on the bottom. The 'economy' will be harmed only in that maybe some stock prices will fall which, again, will only impact the wealthiest among us seeing as 84% of all US stocks are owned by the richest 10% of the population.

Hell yeah!

I mean, if some hard working factory worker, who busts their arse 8 hours a day for 60k a year is being forced to pay 20 something percent tax... then obviously it's only fair that someone worth 100 million pays at least 70%.

Fact of the matter is, if a person can't work out a way for them and their family to be extremely comfortable for the rest of their lives off 30 million dollars, then they never deserved to be rich in the first place!

It's got nothing to do with being jealous either... It's about not being a freeloader and paying your fair share to society!

It's kind of funny how some people completely meltdown about some loser have not, who's claiming (maybe) a few hundred dollars a month in government benefits just to survive... Yet totally defend the leeches who are earning millions a year and aren't paying their fair share back into society.

And what y’all don’t get is that all the info spoonfed to you about how the economy “works” is from Chicago school economists who have no clue about the real economy because they don’t factor in debt, banks, or money into any equations. And doing this they fool you into thinking our wealthiest people are “job creators “ when in fact their real function is to extract wealth from you and the working class.

1. "It's got nothing to do with being jealous either... " - BULL#

2. Let me make it simple enough so that even someone like you can understand. If Musk had been taxed at 70% when he sold off Paypal, he never would have had the funding to start, SpaceX, Tesla, or any other firm. The same applies to any other serial entrepreneur. And the US would be POORER for it.

3. The notion that your hero cocktail waitress can spend the money better than someone like Musk is beyond ridiculous.

You are solely motivated by jealousy.

False!!!!

Check Venezuela for proof - Yet I'm sure you'll say " but this time with democratic socialism it will be different"
Punishing the best and brightest NEVER works, anywhere.

Stop being such a jealous crybaby.
Yes, they make more than you do because they ARE smarter, more informed and better than you are, loser.

They do create jobs, but the real definition of a job is providing a service of value in exchange for less pay than the actual value of that service. Only way around it is to work for yourself.

1. Germany is governed by the CDU a conservative party
2. Neither country has 70% income tax
3. Neither country is proposing a "green new deal" composed by a cocktail waitress

You just spout nonsense out of your ASS.

It is obvious Occasional Cortex is in WAY over her head, obvious to anyone except the "fries with that" crowd of which
you are clearly part.

No country in History has ever gotten better/richer by raising taxes, but "this time it's different".

I don't expect you to understand - you are perfectly happy having a monkey like Alexandria at the controls of a 747 carrying 300 million + Americans.

Speaks to your background and abject lack of education.

No matter how "hard" a factory worker may work, it is simply NOTHING compared to a STEM degree.
NOTHING.
Period.
At least 40hrs/week classes + labs + work+exams.

If you are ballsy enough to start a startup, weekly hours go to 80-100/week with ZERO security and strong risk of personal bankruptcy for your efforts.

And NO I don't think the guy ( or gal in the case of Alexandria) cleaning the toilet deserves $15/HR on account of " BECAUSE".

WTF dude!?!

Just settle down, like seriously... lol.

Anyway, it's kind of funny how back in the 50's and 70's when there was a high tax rate on the filthy rich, that a family could live comfortably on a single blue-collar wage... in a big house, with all the perks and 2 big gas guzzling cars.

But then you get to the 80's and 90's, when they start lowering the tax rate on the filthy rich... then all of a sudden, you need 2 bread earners in a family working at least 40 hours a week, just to break even.

Explain that?
