If your information diet consists primarily of news from liberal media outlets, you'd think the government shutdown (now on day 13) was ruining the country.

That's just more FAKE NEWS.

In actuality, relatively few Americans feel any effects from our U.S. government being partially shut-down.

The U.S. economy barely feels any effect either. A study conducted by the White House Counsel of Economic Advisors confirms that in our robust economic environment, Government spending, or lack of spending, has nominal effect on the U.S. economy.

President Trump plans on keeping parts of the government closed until House Democrats enable funding for a wall to protect American citizens from crime and drugs coming across our southern border. Therefore...

It looks like President Trump tasked Chairman Kevin Hassett, of the White House Council of Economic Advisors (CEA), to run the numbers on how the prolonged government shut-down might have an impact on the economy.

Hassett’s rough estimate, calculated from the withdrawal of income from the furloughed federal employees, is around 1/10th of one percent per pay cycle (every two weeks) in GDP impact. Little to no actual economic effect.
Source: theconservativetreehouse.com...-158439

So, 20 weeks of the current status-quo would only have a 1% negative effect on our Gross National Product.

Since 95% of furloughed government employees voted Democrat (Hillary) in the 2016 Presidential election, the pressure is on House DEMOCRATS to grant the funds necessary for protecting American citizens in the best way possible.

The relatives of Americans murdered by Illegal Aliens "feel it" too. And infinitely more than laid-off government employees.

Furloughed workers will get their pay eventually. Will Americans who lost loved-ones get that person back?

No comparison!

I saw an article today. I think on zerohedge. On phone so can't link right now. Anyway it claimed IRS was saying they may not be able to issue tax refunds. This is how Democrats will defeat Trump on this issue.

A true shutdown doesnt really affect the public all that much. However if the deep state can make it start hurting g people like delaying tax refunds it could cause the sheeple to turn against trump.

I think they should re-assess all "shut down" areas and consider elimination or major reduction.

Big Gov is a mess and needs serious trimming.

i was thinking about that the other day. not that anyone has actually gone without pay yet. but many of those affected are unionized are they not? if so why has their unions not set up government shutdown pay funds, just as unions put aside money so that in the case of a strike they can give the affected employees at least a bit of pay to help them? seems rather short sighted since there have been shutdowns the last few years. even though in the end it seems that no one actually has lost any money due to those shut downs. in the case of them getting their pay eventually such funds could constitute a loan paid back which would go back into the fund for the next one.

Yup.

"Make it hurt" was Obama's directive to his regime when they shut down in 2013.

Issuing tax refunds is a part of the same law that requires the government to collect tax revenue.

If the IRS refuses to issue refunds, they should stop collecting.

Yeah, that is what I said. Guarantee they will find a way to keep collecting but use every excuse to delay refunds. This is how you will know it is deep state pulling strings.

I think whole sections of the Federal Government will figure out that they are not "critical", just as the Mainstream Media is learning, thanks to our Social Media savvy President.

That's a good point. The Government Employee Union should have funds set aside for these relatively common shut-downs.

But then, the Unions would want the money back, when the employees receive their back-pay, don't you think?

www.politifact.com...

It estimated "nearly half of all the unauthorized migrants now living in the United States entered the country legally through a port of entry such as an airport or a border crossing point where they were subject to inspection by immigration officials."

That report estimated visa overstays in 2014 accounted for 42 percent of the total undocumented population, or about 4.5 million people. It also projected that overstays made up about two-thirds of the total number of people who became unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. that year.

not caring about that though right?

why not throw 5 billion at that # to lock it down?

why so hung up on the wall?

The Director of the Treasury would compel the IRS to process refunds. There's little doubt about that.

People crossing illegally is the issue keeping the government partially shut-down. The Visa overstays will be addressed with comprehensive immigration reform.

Probably because a shutdown isn't a strike. That's sort of the issue that most federal employees are having: they still have to show up at work but not get paid for being there until some as yet to be determined date at some point in the future.
