I may not be a Democrat, but I do want there to be two vibrant parties (preferably more) in this country.

So its a little discouraging to see that after everything we have seen, the Dems went back to picking Pelosi as the face of their party.

I think we will start to see a large division between two factions in the Dem party; the neolib corporatist war pushing establishment party of Hillary and Pelosi, and the Progressive socialist esque Bernie type wing of the party.

We already see 15 Dems didnt vote for Pelosi, and many more are already discussing voting against some of her rules packages.

I look for Pelosi to play up more identity politics to appease the Progressive wing, and try to unite them under the "we hate Trump" banner.

Ultimately, I think it would be nice to see fresh faces, but I guess we get what we vote for.

Lastly, although I am extremly doubtful that Pelosi will be good for the country (or her party), as I feel her track record shows, I still will be rooting for her to prove me wrong and do great for the country.

I like Nancy Pelosi. She fights to help people. So far in my lifetime trickle down has never worked.

I too, like Pelosi. Trickle down has never worked, and let's be honest, anything that winds Herr Trump up can't be all bad.
Jokes aside, while I do actually like and respect Pelosi, I would also like some fresh blood and new ideas. God knows we need them.

The dems are foolish to hitch their wagons to Pelosi.
They need to wise up and look at their last president. He was a hipish, youngish candidate.
Look at Canada, Trudeau is the same.

I dont like the politics of either one but I'm smart enough to understand that those two connected with their voter base.

Pelosi is outdated

I used to think that young and fresh was the way to go, but lets flip the script.

Get some of Teddy Roosevelt's DNA, bring it to South Korea, and clone him.

I think he could really fix some of the divide this country has.

I think Pelosi promising to limit her tenure to 4 years was an extremely smart move for herself. I don't mind her much one way or the other. It would be nice to see her experience combine with the fresh ideas of the younger/newer elects for some actual reform and progress.

How has Pelosi helped her representatives in San Fran?

High costs, poo and heroin in the streets, a hypocrite extreme.

She is almost as bad as Hitlery.

She's just as bad as Warren.

She's a political whore. An over-the-hill slut who could string together enough unscripted sentences to order a frigging Big Mac.

Look at the people the Dems are setting up to run for president in 2020: Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, and Elizabeth Warren. All of them are old, rich whites. The closest thing to a fresh young face is Robert O'Rourke, who calls himself "Beto" so people will think he's Hispanic (he isn't).

The sad thing is, those really are the best people the Democratic party can offer. Who else are they going to nominate? Maxine Waters, frequently cited as the most corrupt person in Congress? Al Green (D-TX), whose ugly face perfectly mirrors his bitter hate-filled personality? Andrew Cuomo (governor of New York) who spent years protecting the NXIVM sex cult, and is probably a member of it?

I have no idea what you are talking about. My whole lifetime Republicans have been beating the exact same drum since Reagan.

It seems like this whole thread is for scoring cheap political points by associated "old" with Pelosi because she's old. I think old people have great wisdom they bring to any discussion especially politics.

It doesn't matter who the Democrats choose for leadership. The Republicans will have the exact same level of disrespect no matter what. This is why this country is so divided. How can anyone have a civil discussion with people who believe their own opinions are facts while opposing opinions are lies. People have different life experiences. People vote for Democrats based on their life experiences. People who vote Democrats should be just as respected as people who serve in the military. We are all Americans on the same side. We just have different opinions on how best to solve our problems or what is a problem worth addressing.

I was speaking half in jest, I'm not a fan of candidates in the system for too long as they are almost always corrupted, I also despise the dynasty families even if they have had some good ones like TR and JFK.

I think the Republicans and Democrats have evolved into two very similar parties that churn out almost identical establishment candidates.

I think the only real change will come from throwing out the current political system we have of two parties that have shown if a candidate doesn't fit the bill, they will snuff them before the people can pick them (Ron Paul, Bernie.)

Got the same issues in the UK, I am classed as a floating voter, in my own lifetime there has never been 2 partys or more offering equally viable options

Most dislike the Conservatives but the country seems better of when run by them despite the disdain, in the last 40 years there has been just 1 labour government (1997-2010), prior to that was 1975-1979 (before my time (just)) as the previous government left the country broke and operating on a 3 day working week.

Which ever way you do decide to w̶a̶s̶t̶e̶ cast your vote there ALWAYS needs to be more than 1 option, and not just the option of "well those guys suck I will vote for these incompetents instead"

I Would considerar myself a libertarian with conservative leanings. More specifically, I guess I'd be socially more liberal and fiscally more conservative, but I don't see libertarianism as the end-all. I dislike when I hear people talking down "liberals." My issues is not with liberals, but with progressives, and I believe that histroically liberals are very different from progressives. Sadly, the two have become conflated.

We need different points of view for a full and healthy dialog to take place. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is smart enough to see the whole picture and have all the answers.

The system is broken because we have lost the capacity for respectful, two-way dialog. I spent 25 years living outside the US (I am a US native) and when I returned in 2008, the first thing that I noticed was that at both the personal/social level and the national/political level, US culture had lost the capacity for meaningful, respectful dialong. This frightened me then, and it's only gotten worse.

This is where the problem lies.

If HIllary did not steal the South Carolina primary and others Bernie would have been the nominee. His extreme socialism might have actually got him elected.

The problem with Hillary Clinton is she is NOT a Democrat. She is a Republican. I will prove it to you. She actually worked on Barry Goldwater's presidential campaign when she was in college. She stated it on her autobiography. SHE IS A REPUBLICAN!!!

What is sad is that you think my comment is sad. Admit it, you have no respect for Democrat's opinion and Democrats period. You think Democrats are domestic enemies. Just admit it and have some backbone to show your true colors rather than hide behind innuendo of "and sad."

If libertarianism is so great, how come no libertarian has ever become a presidential nominee?

Funny thing is, most democrats would spit on a vet before respecting them.
