Private messages disappearing from inbox

I went to check my mail the other day and there were a few messages missing. I went to check today and now a few more are gone. Do they decay with time? Thanks.

At times they've disappeared after opening and being read for me...

Yes. If you don't save them then the oldest messages will be deleted once they reach a certain age.

There is a save button when you view them. If you want to save a message just store them there.

Don't use PRIVATE messages then, they aren't private.

they should have a little blurb on the bottom that says

"This message will self destruct in T minus (some amount of time, years probably)"

i personally had a private message that got deleted as well, i cant remember what it was about tho.

while the g;ib explaination of :

" PMs are deleted after a certain time "

sounds plausible

i am now convinced there is a glitch - or ATS is cheapskating

my" cheapskate " hypothisis = rather than the sensible option of creating 2 copies of each PM - one for the senders outbox , and one for the recipients inbox - only one is actually held - so if either party deletes thier copy - its gone - and the other is left mystified

i recieved a PM this morning - now its gone - but one from 01 JANURARY 2019 is still in inbox

so its NOT time dependant

further -i suspect that i now can tell if a member has read a PM i sent - as the bold highlight on my copy changes - for random reasons - or read ?

go figure

thats all speculation - any one want to play a game ????????????????

a simple test - i shall send 6 unique PMs and see if time set delet - or i can govern the order in which your copy is deleted

and - can i tell which one you has read ???????????? - wen recieved - only read 4 - and i shall see if i can tell which are unread

And I just proved your theory wrong. I sent a PM and deleted the copy in my outbox. The PM on the other end stayed intact.

PM this morning - was gone after < 8 hours

PM from 4 days ago - still in inbox

No, there was a glitch with the one that disappeared. It happens occasionally.

zaph - its not just an occassional g;itch - with a single dissapearing message - at least not for me

i has one message TOTAL in my inbox - all rest has evaporated

i made a joke to a friend that its like " schroedingers PMs " - you has no idea what messages you have till you open the box

but for me - thats reality

and paranoia asks - are messages evaprorating before i read them ???????????
