God bless you, burddude. Some people get so complacent that they lose all concept of the real world. Oddly enough, it's because of the luxuries provided to them by the very system they oppose. It boggles the mind.

What do you expect her to have in the background?? A horde of homeless living in tents?
She's the Queen for goodness sake, she is supposed to be inspirational and garner respect, and for working hard until her 80's for one thing...unfortunately it appears those days are long long gone

Working hard!?! That's a good one.

What do monarchs ever inspire besides blind bowing and scraping loyatly?

I find it hilariously funny that Euros love to whinily ask Americans "what freedoms do you think you have that Euros don't? " sounding like Horshack asking Mr Kotter why his mother's socks are under Kotter's desk, and ALWAYS immediately follow it with some variant of "they're going to say firearms." Little bit self conscious of Europe's gun bans and lack of freedom in that regard, are you?
You already know what freedoms we Americans exercise that y'all have surrendered, so why ask the question in the first place?

"Hate" is subjective. Criticising Islam's track record of terrorism, pedophilia, and homophobia isn't "hate speech," It's statement of facts... but in the UK it'll get your ass fined or imprisoned I do not consider being jailed for telling the truth to be in any way an example of freedom, liberty, or enlightenment, it's tyranny and it is what this country fought the Revolutionary War to free themselves from.

Very, very few innocent people find themselves on death row. Those that do can at least plead their cases publicly without finding themselves silenced for hate speech or incitement, at least.

Just look at the degrees of frivolous BS the little 'happiness machines' (indoctrinated homo sapiens) go to for the queen to visit one day at the Kew Botanical Gardens:

A Year at Kew Season Two 01of10 Visit from The Queen

Total minion tools. And maybe shes there for a few hours or whatever. If she was cool she'd be out there all summer hanging out with everyone, being involved with stuff. Like she actually does anything REAL all year. Sitting inside marveling over her collections of precious metals & gems and fineries thereof doesnt count as "real".

The Queen does loads internationally, far more than our PM or the US President. Head of State, Head of Commonwealth, Head of Armed Forces, non-political envoy and diplomat, fortnightly meetings with the PM to advise and keep abreast of Parliamentary matters, head of hundreds of charities etc...

She only gets Christmas Day off every year, otherwise she's busy signing off red boxes of constitutional matters and and telegrams from thee 53 nations she's head of.

That was Edward in the film who was a big supporter of Hitler in the early 1930's.

A little info on the offending piano as that was what the thread was about.

The piano was made by Erard – the French firm whose instruments were famously used by Chopin, Liszt, Mendelssohn and Wagner. And it was made in 1856, during the reign of Queen Victoria and given to the queen on 30 April 1856.

This particular piano isn’t exactly a standard model. It’s gilded (decorated with gold leaf) and painted by the miniature painter François Théodore Rochard.

The designs on the piano depict cherubs as well as ‘singeries’ – comical scenes showing monkeys playing musical instruments and generally causing mischief.

How much is it worth?
This isn't an easy question to answer. There are Erard grand pianos for sale, from around the same period, for around $175,000 (£138,000). But this piano is a one of a kind, hand-painted model. So it would hard to put a price on it!
www.classicfm.com...

The piano was a gift so it didn't cost anything.

Yeah we kind of know that big Phill might have been a bit of a Nazi sympathiser back in the day. Just like Henry Ford might have been a bit closer with them that history would like to acknowledge.

Also there is no such thing as a "subject" we are not "subjects" we are citizens.

Anyway....what does that have to do with Trump.

Obviously is that Trump is constantly compared to HITLER. And yet you guys literally bow at a NAZIS feet.

If you think we literally bow at the Queen's feet you don't know much about British society, either that or you literally don't understand the word "literally"...

There's quite a lot of ignorance displayed in this discussion regarding the UK monarch and her role in UK affairs as the Head of State of the UK and other Commonwealth countries.

To put the record straight here. The etiquette for greeting the Queen - or any other Royal - is actually quite relaxed, and a modest bow or curtsey is optional. You don't "bend a knee", and "kissing the ring" is a Catholic tradition connected to bishops, cardinals and the Pope. Methinks people watch too much Game of Thrones and think it's real life.

Where the piano came from has been explained.
However, people really need to understand the difference in her role as Queen and Monarch.
Being Monarch is her job, from which she pays the highest amount of tax into the Privy Purse which goes to the upkeep of Buckingham Palace for example....which belongs to the people NOT her personally. She calls Buck Palace The Office as that is where she carries out her duties as Monarch.
Gifts like the piano in question for example do not belong to her personally. Just like gifts given to the President from other countries.

Like OtherSideOfTheCoin said....it is complex, but quite easy to understand the basics once you get your heads around her two very separate roles as Queen and Monarch.

She is the Queen, she lives in a palace, maybe this was the scruffiest room available to her?

I don’t know what people expected she is the queen. Did they think she would have been sitting on a tatty DFS sofa with shots of Jeremy Kyle on the 48 inch plasma in the background as big phill lounges about in his primark pyjamas munching on a Greggs sausage roll?

The Crown Jewels just sitting on the Ikea sideboard?

She’s the queen for Christ’s sake not your aunt Susan who pulls pints in the local boozer!
