No , it just looks odd , probably is the white shirt and red tie.
I guess it gives him prominence in the picture which was probably the aim.

And the fact he is "breaking the 4th wall".

Either that or looking at Lincoln, but I think the idea was, as you said, to bring emphasis to Trump, as the sitting POTUS at the time it was painted. The President at present.

The same female is looking on from the background in both the D and R painting.

Is that a clue?

I wouldn't read too much into it. It's a picture on a par with the work of Thomas Kincaide.

Thanks for sharing. I do like both of these paintings. It is curious that Obama was placed in the center and does not seem to be interested in the conversation at the table. His eyes are looking at you the viewer. This is slightly disconcerting and makes him stand out.

Trump's painting, the artist placed him to the side and he actually does seem to be listening to the conversation. It is a curious difference of a similiar painting. One has to wonder if the artist subconsciously is tapping in to his own perspective biases. It would be natural.

Edit add: also when seen together: interesting that Trump is sitting in JFK chair and Clinton is in Nixon's chair. Hmmm? Curious.
