What is the new green deal? Lately I have seen members reference this effort by democrats, specifically cortez, to change a lot of current laws.

I've seen the usual knee jerk reaction by some to disregard it entirely because of cortez. But this is ats. And here at ats we should all know to do our research. So here is the new green deal.

www.gp.org... ---------Please read it in it's entirety before you comment.

What don't you like about this and why?

What do you like about this and why?

Here are some highlights that I like manly because they bring back power to the people.

repealing the Patriot Act and those parts of the National Defense Authorization Act that violate our civil liberties; prohibiting the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI from conspiring with local police forces to suppress our freedoms of assembly and of speech; and,

Strengthen media democracy by expanding federal support for locally-owned broadcast media and local print media

celebrate our democratic aspirations by making Election Day a national holiday;

replace big money control of election campaigns with full public financing and free and equal access to the airwaves

That's just a few I like.
A few I don't like.

Create a Corporation for Economic Democracy, a new federal corporation (like the Corporation for Public Broadcasting) to provide publicity, training, education, and direct financing for cooperative development and for democratic reforms to make government agencies, private associations, and business enterprises more participatory.
Just more bureaucracy. We don't need this.

create a federal bank with local branches to take over homes with distressed mortgages and either restructure the mortgages to affordable levels, or if the occupants cannot afford a mortgage, rent homes to the occupants;
Slippery slope. No thanks.

But the big reason I like the new green deal is this.

Democratize monetary policy to bring about public control of the money supply and credit creation. This means we'll nationalize the private bank-dominated Federal Reserve Banks and place them under a Monetary Authority within the Treasury Department.

End the fed!!

I don't like the Green deal because it has nothing to do with helping the environment or being green. Plants thrive on CO2. So the more CO2 in the air the greener our planet will become. Imo, the green deal is just a ploy to steal taxpayers money. If they try it, they'll get a revolution & Democrat socialist politicians heads will roll.

I like the idea in the OP regarding the repealing of the Patriot Act, as well as, repealing the NDAA & ending the Federal Resrve Bank but I'm not for anything which makes government larger or gives it more power. I believe we should follow the constitution regarding these issues instead of trying to subvert it.

The New Green Deal has as it's premise that we are a Democracy.

We are not.

Although there is a party that would LOVE that....

So they give you a few good ideas (I'm all for the Fed Reserve going away, a repeal of the Patriot Act, etc) but the plan simply replaces them with another form, under government control again.

So it's a shell game, renaming things but still expanding the power of the government. To be honest, more power in the form of government that the Progressives (both sides of the aisle) love.

Why not just get rid of the Federal Reserve and replace it with nothing? It has done far more harm than good even if you believe its official charter.

Why do we need a Corporation (blah) of Economic Democracy? So more governmental control over business?

Why not get back to being actual capitalists, instead of the crony capitalism we have now?

Where is getting rid of the Department of Education? Oh.. progressives are fine with that... after all, it has an amazing track record so far!!

Is there somewhere in the bill a means of getting rid of lobbyists? I may have missed that one...

Why let government control the air you breath? Why not let a free market decide?

Nah.. the whole thing is just another push for more governMENTAL control

But they tried to wrap it in a pill that would be easier to swallow.

She is going with the idea that capitalism forms socialism forms communism.

It's all she knows.

And just for fun...

Aaaaand amazing contribution as well.

On topic, seems like a pretty good deal for a first read, if they can provide fact-based researches that all policies will give positive results.

And if not, change it back or try a different way.

Cut the political crap and create solutions for everyone for God's sake.

The last thing this country needs is for trump to be assassinated.

No mater who was to blame the trumpsters would start that civil war.

In fact I think it would be the only thing that could start one.

Those are all parts of the new green deal.

So you do like some of it.

Read it. I beat that you like a lot more of it.

I'm cool with this.

offer capital grants to non-profit developers of affordable housing until all people can obtain decent housing at no more than 25% of their income.

The day they restructure my mortgage so that its only 25% of my income I'll be ready to vote Cortez the next president of the united states.

Something tells me though they aren't talking about me.

My understanding is that the ability to raise/lower interest rates and print money will be put back in the hands of the united states government the way it was at the beginning? So that things like just happened when the fed raised rates because they didn't like what trump said, couldn't happen ever again?
I'm not afraid to say I could be wrong in my interpretation.

Why do we need a Corporation (blah) of Economic Democracy? So more governmental control over business?

Agreed I don't like that one. I wonder if this is an all or nothing proposal? Could each point of this idea they call the new green deal be voted on separately? I don't know.

Is there somewhere in the bill a means of getting rid of lobbyists?

Not getting rid of , which I agree we should do , but limiting the power of them.

Pay-to-play prohibitions will ensure that campaign contributions or lobbying favors do not impact decision-making.

Just like with the 2008 housing downturn; I believe they are referring only to people who are finding it difficult to pay for their housing. People who have structured their lives such that they are self sufficient are not on the list to given relief.

I'm one of those people. So it doesn't bother me when other people who aren't get help.
But we don't know who they mean.

I wish it wasn't so vague. "all people".

I agree " it doesn't bother me when other people who aren't get help" ... I like when people who need it "get help"

What I am cynical about is that my family and others like my family are never given the same help.

When "all" of the country finds relief from "the new deal" I'll be behind it 100%... but when it's only a select few who are going to see relief from this new deal I cant whole heartily support it.

To be clear I hope I am completely wrong with my cynisisum... but they have to provide more than words to persuade me.

I mean I'll admit that I know how you feel. I am right in that place that makes me fall through the cracks of the system that is in place to help people.

I was one of the few that worked but couldn't afford healthcare till the aca.

Maybe this will be different? Maybe when they say all people they mean it. I'd love for someone to ask cortez that question and hear hear say yes, it means everyone no mater their income.

Does anyone here have twitter? Could they ask her?
A lot of our politicians are on twitter now. We should take advantage and speak to them . I'm talking to myself here too.

Given that this is being endorsed by Cortez, a socialist, I'm going to pass.

I've read some other opinions on the "new green deal" and it's neither, new, nor green, nor a deal.

Google, or Bing it yourself.

It doesn't pass the "smell" test.
