Italy's Mount Etna erupts, authorities close airport

Krakatoa last week and now Italy's Mount Etna decides to pop off. The global cooling folks have said earthquakes and volcanoes would be increasing in activity.. Either way the airport has been closed due to ash.

CATANIA, Italy (Reuters) - Italy's Mount Etna, Europe's highest and most active volcano, erupted on Monday, sending a huge column of ash into the sky and causing the closure of Catania airport on Sicily's eastern coast.



A chain of around 130 earth tremors have rocked the volcano since around 0800 GMT on Monday, Italy's National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology said, with the strongest posting a magnitude of 4.0.

There are plenty of active volcanos across the world. The fact that two well known ones are active at the same time is just chance. Not sure there a link with global/cooling warming - that sounds like an excuse to bring the subject up at any opportunity.

Etna is one of the volcanoes that is more or less undergoing continuous eruption. The ash cloud is merely an accent in an ongoing process.

Etna is liable to the top sliding offf over the unconsolidated lava underneath, so we're told by experts .

You know, that's a pretty good question, actually.

Is this a major or minor eruption? The video said its last major eruption was in 1992. I'm betting this is just a minor eruption...

Probably because of the same reason that other cities are built where they know tornadoes or earthquakes happen; they're in desirable places, people weigh the risks, and determine that they are worth chancing.

For the most part they are correct.

For the record, this was definitely a minor eruption with regard to that which Etna is capable.

Some Christians , notably the JWs , see the Babylon of Revelation prophecy as being the Catholic Church , in particular The Vatican City . They generally ascribe nearby volcanoes the job of sometime fulfilling the prophecy of the destruction of Babylon .

Some of these astronomers and scientist's were ridiculed for predicting these events,one in particular Dr Carlos Ferrado,predicted those 2 volcanoes erupting,then he predicts a 3 rd one in Java area,then an astroid will hit off Puerto Rico setting off a chain of events,polar shift,the world is pretty much Fed up,except in middle east

A possibility I had not heard of.. Listen at the 1:10 mark for the 5.1 Etna flank earthquake and the possible that the entire flank could slide into the ocean causing a tsunami in the eastern Mediterranean that could kill 10s of thousands of people.
