The Senate passed a CR.

Not one the House passed.

Duh. But it is the one that McConnell apparently thought the president would sign. For some reason.

He must have been trippin'.

You do realize it has to be approved by the Senate, the House, and then the President, right?

I wonder what extra powers the President has during a shutdown ... and how would he use those powers.

Yes.

And apparently McConnell thought that the president would sign. Or else he would not have called the vote.

The House certainly scrambled when the president tweeted.

It's relevant because Trump's campaign promise was that Mexico would pay for the wall. Now, he's extorting tax payers, and you're tell me that it's Congress job to "break some knee caps" to get that tax American payer money!

Trump is moving the goal posts and so are you.

That isn't necessarily true.

McConnell had something he knew would pass the Senate. At that point in the process, that's all he had to have. He had no way of knowing if it would pass the House which is where it was going next.

Actually, he did.
Until the president had his tweet tantrum after Fox and Friends got upset with him.

But it didn't make it out of the Senate.

It did. The Senate passed a CR.

Did it pass the House?

My amigos in gov want 10 days off, with reimbursement after that holiday vacation. McConnell assured them today that they'd get it. Lot of happy Federal Workers tonight!

Did it pass the House?

Yes. After the House added something.

Not after the House added something.

Well then it didn't make to the President for him to take the blame.

This thread is about the government shutdown.

Uh-oh! Now beans are down 0.02%!

Not really.

He may have thought it might, but houses of Congress will pass bills as political gestures all the time.

I expect Pelosi to queue up a whole smorgasbord of purely political bills as soon as she has the gavel in a couple weeks.

What?
The president said he would not sign a bill which did not include $5 billion for his wall. So the House added $5 billion for his wall. The Senate won't pass that bill.

The president's single condition (the wall) is what is killing the CR. The president owns the shutdown, as he bigly proclaimed.

Yes. After the House added something.

That isn't how it works. It has to pass the House the same way it passed the Senate.

So McConnell called a vote on a CR which did not include funding for Trump's wall for political purposes? It wasn't to prevent a government shutdown?
