Nice find gortex

Any idea of how large the yellow "dots" in the snow are @ area about 4 o'clock in the image?

Simple artifacts

The crater looks amazing! I've never seen anything like this before!

...and with the lower gravity, all those triple mid-air spins become 8 or 9 spins...

I think that we're going to discover that Mars settlements will be easier than feared...not easy, mind you, just easier.

That's a lot of ice.

That pic is CGI (literally) as it's a mosaic of images stretched over 3D terrain model.

Here's the original top-down mosaic from Mars Express

Make sure to check out the full-sized version at www.esa.int...

Here's a closeup of the crater's rim as seen by MRO's HiRISE camera: hirise.lpl.arizona.edu...

(Tried uploading the image for this post, but the uploading service is acting strange today.

No life on Mars, has been all along.
No water on Mares, has been all along.
No Aliens on Mares, ?
No humans on Mars, ?

and you all just forget they lies all the time.
then forget they did!!!!

Water has been known to exist on Mars since the Viking probes (1970s).

No life, aliens, or humans have been found on Mars (yet)

Why would they lie when any such discoveries would gain huge public interest and an increase in funding, as well as Nobel Prizes for the scientists?

BTW, this crater has also been photographed by the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter in April.

(A slightly edited version for more natural colours)

That's one photogenic crater!

I wish they would extend us some truth instead of pretty pictures.

Maybe the alien killed them all (huehuehuehuehuehuehuehue...)

That's a nice crater you got there!

...It would be a shame if something like GLOBAL CLIMATE WARMING CHANGE would happen to it!

Well-spotted (no pun intended). I wonder what these are, perhaps just an image processing artifact.

The yellow spots are not visible in the HiRISE images of the area.
hirise.lpl.arizona.edu...
hirise.lpl.arizona.edu...

(the HiRISE imagery is flipped upside for some reason here, so I flipped the picture below the right way round)

There's an interesting feature near that area:

Or it's some sort of mineral deposit within the ice.

It could be almost anything...This is why feet should be on the ground as soon as humanly possible. Preferably with in my lifetime...

Clearly an Ouroboros....the beginning and end of time.

The all is one.

This is why we need to fund space exploration.

Not just for pretty pictures.

But because there was a time when science thought there was no water on mars at all nor could there be.

Just imagine what unknown resources are on the other planets.

We just have to go get them.

Probably not in my lifetime but there will one day be a "gold rush" in space.

Just imagine what us humans will be building at that level.

Inspiring pic.

forgive me for being Donnie Downer
it's not worth it. and won't be for a long long time.
I think this stuff is interesting. I love science. but it's not worth the millions.
even if we find diamonds or unobtanium its not worth recovering, even if we had the technology, which is decades away.

Good job Queen Elizabeth did not say that to Sir Francis Drake...

lol she said 'get me some of that Spanish gold' and it was done with existing technology and limited expense (Drake's projects paid for themselves).

NASA's strategy over the past few decades with their Mars exploration has been to "Follow The Water" in the search for life, past or present.

NASA has been telling us for years thatt water-ice exists on mars, and they often said that liquid water may still exist in some localized areas - such as low-lying regions with higher atmospheric pressure. I don't know where you are getting that they recently (past 40 to 50 years) have said that there is no water or water ice.

As for life, their missions to Mars have been actively looking for signs that Mars could have once had life, and they have openly said that life may still exist under the surface.

It's all part of their "Follow The Water" strategy, as outlined in this presentation from NASA about that strategy:

NASA - Follow the Water
