This is not a question about withdrawing from Syria.
This is a question about how we do it.
The immediate withdrawal President Trump has commanded is abandonment of allies and a forfeit of US power in the region. It is precisely what Vladimir Putin demanded a week prior to President Trump's announcement.
The United States could have very easily negotiated an exit that included safe passage of the local forces that were aiding us in the region and pressed for a political solution to Assad's dictatorial reign that has cost hundreds of thousands of lives and caused the largest migrant crisis in decades.
President Trump simply folded on behalf the of the United States and all of the US promises to it's allies were forfeit.

Assad was fighting ISIS.
Best be careful your posts make you almost sound pro-war and pro-isis.
You can deny their suffering and deaths for propaganda or political purposes. You can dispute history and defend a sociopath. It makes no difference to me.

There were units of his military that rebelled the problem is at this stage there are none left, its all jihadist warriors from Isis and other terror groups around the ME.
The window to help the actual rebels closed about a year before the west started trying to arm the "rebels".

The "Free Syrian Army" (Founded by defecting Syrian military generals and thousands of associated troops) dissolved and merged with the SDF "Syrian Democratic Forces" which along with the PKK (Kurdish Forces) have been allied with US Forces in Northern Syria.

It is also worth noting that the Free Syrian Army's strategy was never occupation, but rather guerrilla warfare, hit and run and dispersing Assad's forces. Their strategic aim was never formal war and occupation. Their merging with larger forces was inevitable.
