What if google, or your phone, or any data collecting entity started auctioning off our viewing history.
I know this is already happening behind the scenes, but i'm talking about publicly

How many people would freak out?

How much would you pay to see a certain somebody's search history, full deleted searches?
I think we would be surprised at how much we really don't know about people.

I worked in IT and in telecom. We got to see a lot of data. We got to see that there were people
on their phones for 11 hours a day 7 days a week for months on end.

Here's my guess, people would be surprised about who is really perverted, who is suicidal, who is sicker (illness) than we realized, who is in debt, who is rich, who is racist. Just imagine...

Then the world would know I frequently look up 'how to dispose of human remains'.

Oh, and that I really like lesbians.

Why auction off the different ones when Google™ can just burn copies and $ell to every entity willing to purchase??

You know, like they do presently?

I'll crawl out on that proverbial limb and type, the folks @Google™ will NOT turn off any revenue stream... EVER!!!

They should do it like those public data type sites lol

"Possibly looks at midget porn" Pay 9.99 to unlock in-depth history details.

Didn't look at midget porn? Pay 29.99 to edit your viewable history.

Yes they sell it in order for advertisers to target you. A lot of that is very impersonal. It's all about selling. They sell trends.

I'm talking about something different, something linked to a specific person
If they said, for the low low price of 99.99 which can be paid in three monthly installments, you can
see the last five years of search history of your brother in-law, or crazy neighbor. For an entra 29.99 we'll throw in an extra 5 years and show you what was searched incognito

That just to hide your pron from the wife.

Doesn't affect what google does if you use their search engine to find what you are looking for.

I see it more like:

"Dear Sir/Madam,

We here at Google have received a request to purchase your search history for $50.
Naturally, in the interests of maintaining your privacy, we'd prefer to sell it back to you.

Please send us $100.

Sincerely,
Google"

Awe, bless your naive little heart. You actually believe that makes a difference?

That, in no way affects what google, or your provider can see.

Apparently from what the third cousin of my next door neighbors uncle didn’t tell me when I wasn’t in Croatia last weekend in the woods whilst mushroom picking!

Darned throat again.

Not enough....

panopticlick.eff.org...

This shows you the kind of information google will use to track you. Changing browsers isn't even enough.

They can use all this...and more to verify you across different browsers or even computers. Just my user agent is almost enough. Only 1 in 2,863,313 browsers have that same user agent. That coupled with only a few of the rest is enough to track you across different browsers, even logging into a different operating system on the same computer will still give enough information for you to be identified.

I think we all can safely assume there are many eyes watching ATS. Not necessarily selling.

I assume it's happening already. So long as my employer or my SO is not the buyer, I do not much care. The state, higher education, credit agencies, and my ISP already know I am a POS.
