Blizzard... wow douche move.

Bliz canned all their esport people without notice 12 days before christmas...

Remember when it was Blizzard North and you got all giddy just hearing those words?

Now when you hear it you feel sick to your stomach sorta like Electronic Arts just no convulsions... yet.

The studios you speak of used to be bastions of art.

They became publicly traded profit machines.

Obviously we all work to make money, and that's why businesses exist... But what are we to expect when something artistic is so successful a corporation buys it and executives figure out how to trigger addiction for profit via loot crates? Litteraly exploiting human flaws through hardwired reward mechanisms to milk money.

It's not hippy bullsh##.... It's the bastardization of art.

That said, we as consumers vote with our dollars. Vote wisely people.

I've played warcraft ever since it first came out. Blizzard have lost their way i think. They started dumbing down games so that young children could play easily and not get bored raiding etc then started introducing the loot boxes to get people addicted.
There's quite a big thing going on in the Uk atm regarding whether or not these loot crates are classed as gambling which of course they are as you pays your money and takes a risk.

A these people have what fake jobs?

Pro gaming and streaming is no different than any other form of athlete or entertainer.

But back on topic.

Blizzard has lost all it's talent, they cashed in their bonuses and time served to work with like minded people in other areas of the business. I called it back when Metzen announced he would retire to focus on his personal life that Blizzard would start to fall apart. When he left a lot of the people who created games like D2, WC3, and WoW were distributed to thin on multiple projects or just simply left. Then Activision stepped in.

People blame the loot boxes and what not, but honestly, the games were far more 'addicting' back pre loot box days, they were more of a time sink, for example in WoW even just the gathering of goods and materials from the open world and even the time it took to get on your mount was calculated to make the player sink more time into the game, and the scarce Epic and legendary items that people played so hard for was like you won the lottery when you got your first one.

I like to compare their old games to that likes of table top casino games and modern games to just mundane slot machines.

Either way, it sucks, that HOTS is being dismantled, it started off as just a pet project a sort of time vault for Blizzards iconic heros, but exploded into the vapid Esport which ruined it for the everyday player. Same thing is happening to OW.

Activision took blizzard sucked all of the life from inside of it, left it a hollow shell and filled in back up full of #. The blizzard games were some of my favourites as a kid. Warcraft 1&2, diablo 1&2, StarCraft and brood war. I spent ridiculous amounts of time playing those games. I'm pretty sure I gave up most of a summer to diablo 2 and then some.

Warcraft 3 was alright still but it was kind of the start of the # train. Then WoW came along and blizzard changed...Activision bought them and then killed all the series I knew and enjoyed. StarCraft 2 was just an excuse to sell you a complete game split across # knows how many different expansions and dlcs and broke everything great about the original. Diablo 3 was...I don't even know how to describe that heaping pile of #...but it wasn't reminded me more of gauntlet mixed with WoW.

Then all these crappy cashgrab games they've been coming out with that are pretty much just elaborate custom StarCraft and Warcraft maps. I used to play tower defense and Moba type maps before that # was even a genre of game.

Activison and EA games killed my joy of playing video games for years and years now with their # cash sucking Skinner boxes.

It kinda seems like video games have almost reached that point they did in the 80's again where there's so much # flooding the market just to make a quick dollar. Last time people got sick of it...maybe it'll happen again and we'll start getting good video games again.
