Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams announced the arrest to reporters in the city terrorized by eight killings committed between 1974 and 1986. He gave no details about the suspect but the city mayor said the man's DNA had been linked to at least one murder. Mayor Carlos Mayans says police were "99% sure" they had caught "the guy"

Police said Saturday they have arrested a man they believe is the notorious BTK serial killer who terrorized Wichita throughout the 1970s and then resurfaced about a year ago after 25 years of silence.

"The bottom line: BTK is arrested," Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams said at a news conference in Wichita with some of the victims' family members.

BTK investigator Lt. Ken Landwehr identified the suspect as Dennis Rader, a 59-year-old city worker in nearby Park City, who was arrested Friday at his suburban home.

Police evaded most if not all of the questions put to them regarding the suspect, in fact they did not even name him, however as you can see by the story one officer has given out a name of the suspect.

Un-verified reports claim that police have obtained DNA samples that will help them support their case.

Police also mentioned that the suspect may have lived on the same street one of the victims did. BTK is a self coined phrase the killer wanted to be addressed by when the police referred to him. BTK stands for,
Bond, Torture, Kill.

Elusive Wichita serial killer BTK will be the subject of an update on "America s Most Wanted" Saturday night Feb 26,2005.

The program, designed to elicit tips about fugitives, will show some content from the package sent to Wichita's Fox Kansas television station last week and the related news conference by Wichita Police Lt. Ken Landwehr, who heads the investigation.

The package is potentially the 11th "communication" by BTK since he resurfaced almost one year ago by sending a letter to The Eagle in March 2004.

Seems he was a scout leader and church elder with 2 kids.Odvious that the fine upstanding citizen routine worked well for him while it lasted. The victims families as well as his children have my sympathy though,I can't imagine what they must be going through.Relieved the trusting scouts & their familes escaped harm too.

CNN and others are reporting that his capture may have been a result of his daughters DNA. They then put the family under observation which lead them to the suspected killer.
