This says it all man.

No one is forcing you to do anything. ALL the choice is yours. Click, don't click. Read, don't read. Participate, don't participate.

It's kind of like seeing porn titles on your cable television channel guide when you have small children in the house. Yeah, you can ignore, "Milf takes it tens ways til Sunday with young studs". But after a while it's just filth.

Get what you’re saying but, just make the choice to not involve yourself in the discussion.

You are on the internet.

There are 24579340957402572409573025720457203752097520957209 things you choose not to see, by not going there.
What is the difference here?

The point that keeps repeatedly going over everyone's "Just ignore it" heads is that it's (Recent) only a 24 hour list, and being flooded with s# a reader doesn't want to see just drowns out & off the list what they'd otherwise see and participate in, and pushes it into obscurity quickly. It doesn't help a CT forum BE a CT forum if mainstream is all anyone can see, whether they want to or not. And while yes, people can go browse the individual forums if they have the time, not everyone has the time to do that, and that's why the Recent list is so freakin' popular -- it's a handy-dandy list of the most recently posted threads for the past 24 hours, and back in the day, it could be tailored to show the most recent threads in the forums you have an interest in and sidestep the junk you don't. Why people think this point is a bad thing is beyond me.

I've explained every which way from Sunday why I think making the Recent list not filterable anymore was a hellaciously bad choice. The excuses make me wonder if people on here are really CT anymore, or just mainstream political junkies.

I don't disagree.

However the hypocrisy displayed in the OP by viewable evidence is apparent.

You can't force anyone to read threads they don't want to.
I found articles that I thought were interesting and posted
them here. Now people think I want civil war and I don't.

to see here on ATS,problem solved!

TBH it use to be that way, you use to be able to remove forums from showing up in recent post, I have no idea why they removed that?

Maybe they were worried traffic would drop?

IDK if they did bring that back I wouldn't have drop # bombs every so often

I don't expect much these days lol.

It's too bad they killed a very popular feature.

It would only be hypocrisy if I had the feature and did not use it. But I guarantee you if the feature existed you would never see me ever post in mud-pit again.

If I wanted sleazy political threads I would go to Alex Jones site. I come to ATS for cool extraterrestrial stuff. It seems to me politics doesn't have to be inserted into every possible nook and cranny or jammed down our throats.

I think this is a good argument. You say it's gold. I say it's filth:

So until the owners change the site to what you want, you do not have any self control? C'mon man.

Your posting history disagrees. 55 Mudpit threads, the most out of all categories. Barring that, ATS is what WE make it, not what YOU want it to be.

Except for, you know, there is zero porn on ATS...unless you include the doom variety.

Nyah already pointed out the meat of the issue. If we could filter out the forums we didn't want to see threads from, then there would be MORE of the threads we do want to see on the New listing. The New listing only holds so many threads before they scroll off and are gone from view. Once that happens, you have to go forum to forum to see what new threads are there.

This isn't about participating or not participating per say, but a way to filter out the things we see in the New list that bump off the topics we care about.

Again, there is a limited amount of topics in the New section. The more threads I don't care about that pop up in the New section, the fewer things I enjoy reading are visible. It's a simple matter of numbers, not self control.

I get that people are picking up on the fact that the OP regularly participates in subjects they claim to be filth, but I have yet to see an argument backing up why it's a bad idea (or not) to be able to filter out specific forums from appearing in our New listing. There are loads of piling on to the OP, but almost no discussion on the actual suggestion put forth. They're not advocating for censoring those forums from everyone. Just a way to make them invisible to your own view.

I doubt you will see one either.

They are correct in that aspect.

Here's what works for me in the past three months:

  1. Don't read political threads
  2. Don't post in political threads
  3. Bale out of threads that turn political

I have to go into some political threads as a mod and that's all. It's a piece of cake to scroll past political thread titles and forums. Odd are most of the partisan members scroll past all the non-political threads and wish they weren't getting in the way of the politics.
Point being that we all like different things and there's an old saying, "Each to their own."

There are no plans to create anti-politics filters so, like everyone else, you'll have to reacquaint your finger with the scroll-wheel and it's really, really easy to do.

Well it is a politically sponsored website in some ways, ya know. But anyways, if a thread is uninteresting I dont click. They technically dont exist anyways. But ya! Like some have said, they used to have a button for that, not only for threads but people whose opinions you didn't like, or they just had a pic avatar you didn't like or really anything.

But then again, its not like opinions matter all that much, besides to the heavily opinionated that and the easily opinionated, that is. And there are worse issues then the politicos, like the fact that not many on this site have anything interesting to say.

If you don't like it, just dont click on it, and viola, presto like magic, its like they dont exist at all. Problem solved.

But if nobody has anything interesting to say and all threads are boring, now that there is a much bigger issue. One that is much harder to fix.

Well you can always just talk to yourself in threads. Its one way to get through the boredom. And after all after many years on the Internets I have come to believe that one talks to oneself regardless, most people just don't know it. Though if one watches the politics threads one can catch a glimpse of it.

Oh Ya! Especially the politicos, you ever read one of there threads?

I think I read a lot this year, like 3 or maybe 4 such threads, there freaking hilarious as always, its like a football rally, only more people with tunnel vision arguing about there guy, its really no different then watching kids arguing about there favorite Pokemon characters.

Its the nature of the beast you know.
