Oh , I forgot. I also have a chest freezer that runs off my solar, full of Canadian hams, turkey breasts, and all kinds of real good stuff. Spanish Bonito tuna, giant captain cuts of black angus new York steaks, and new York steak roasts, a fire place insert, and plenty of fire wood and trees on my property. multiple 120 volt air conditioners to run off the generators if needed. Pounds of Morgan silver dollars, silver ounces, and a bunch of old gold coins from America, Mexico, and Africa.
It might almost be fun.

Oh yeah, a barrel of all types of pasta too

HUH terrorists taking out electric grid? Makes little sense.

Which electric grid? Its not like we got one nation wide electric grid were you take out a building and the whole country goes out, there are literally thousands, if not hundred of thousands of different electrical grids. But I suppose the terrorists can always call a jihad on the sun and take it over then initiate a big ol solar flare or something. That or nuclear all out war.

But ya. Hurricanes and typhoons earthquakes and tidal waves are in a magnitude more dangerous then terrorists. But then again given militant religion factions, and political and economical wars, pretty sure they will kill themselves off before nature kills them off.

So the question then becomes, it all just depends on were you are at and how prepared you are when SHTF. And which type of SHTF it is. But then again its like every year that the # is supposed to hit the fan, besides regular stuff like wars and some earthquakes and tidal waves here and there, not much global catastrophic event has been happening.

Its been like that every year, for many years now.

But the year is still not over yet. Here's hoping for the zombie apocalypse hits before the end of the year.

The Canada/ US power grid is often described as "brittle" because it runs near capacity on a daily basis. The three sub-grids (east, west, & Texas) were joined together beginning in the first decade of the new millennium, and the number of links have proliferated to take advantage of wind farming in the southwestern US.

The biggest previous outage was in 2003, when drooping power lines and an electrocuted cat caused an outage in the northeast us and Ontario that left 55 million people in the dark. The system wasn't restored in the entrie area for up to 2 weeks.

What happened is the blackout in one area "cascades", when it goes offline, neighboring generation points have a surplus, which causes them to go offline in turn, and take out their own nieghbors in the process.

The DHS as said repeatedly that our electrical grid and SCADA-controlled oil pipelines are America's two biggest infrastructure vulnerabilities.

Hyperbole and FUD.

Except that it is real. There is a movement in the tech industry to move off of Chinese suppliers of silicon circuits. Justified fear of baked in back doors of many electronics that many use daily like the electric meter box on the side of many homes

The current upgrade to the electrical companies wifi/radio network is something called p25. There are plenty of .gov agencies that use it, from DPS to the NSA but that is beyond the scope of my opinion here. It's being rolled out worldwide also FYI

P25 was cracked years ago(2011)

Well ya! Its not like its built in underground bunkers, most of it is just lines running from pole to pole. A falling branch can take it out, but that is not per say "take out" of commission. That is just normal occurrence, a continuous rain storm can take it out. It would not be hard at all for nature, to take out all the power lines of humanity. Not hard at all.

Now for terrorists. They would have to blow up all the dams, send hundreds of thousands of people to cut down or blow up all the lines ect ect ect. You see were I am going with this, you would need a massive effort short of invasion boots on the ground sort of thing. Terrorists, ok maybe, it can happen, a few thousand people or a small army can cause damage all throughout the country.

But nature? Its just a matter of when. So basically a small army can cause as much damage as your typical storm season or hurricane season does now, in fact? Maybe they would be less effective, that is a lot of manpower and money to achieve that.

The DHS as said repeatedly that our electrical grid and SCADA-controlled oil pipelines are America's two biggest infrastructure vulnerabilities.

Oh ya! Do you know how easy it would be to get rid of pipelines? Oil does have a tendency to catch fire as well. Its why saudi arabian pays big bucks to America or PMC to protect there pipelines. But anyways DHS or whoever telling people to prepare that eventually things wont go well. Thats like saying a house a cards wont stand up in a hurricane. Its bound to happen, sooner, or latter.

Dam that's a lot of stuff.

Though if # does hit the fan, I would not advertise all that all willy nilly.

But like Bill Burr says, get a gun, or two. Because if you don't know how to fight, all your doing is just gathering supplies for the toughest guy, or guys on the block.

It's fairly obvious that you don't know a damn thing about this topic. Hydro-electric power is only about 8% of US electrical generation; so "taking out all the dams" is not really a threat to the overall system. Additionally, hydroelectric dams are generally tens of thousands of cubic meters of earth and concrete. In real life you cannot rupture a dam with a suitcase of explosives like it was a James Bond movie

Oh ya! Do you know how easy it would be to get rid of pipelines? Oil does have a tendency to catch fire as well.

Crude oil will not burn readily unless under compression, and it requires substantial surface area in contact with oxygen to maintain combustion. Pipelines full of oil cannot burn because there's no oxygen inside them.

The main vulnerability is SCADA, which stands for Supervisory Control And Data Aquisition. It is a way of controlling a geographically dispersed system, like a high voltage power-line network, or all the pump jacks in an oil patch. SCADA systems are vulnerable to hacking, and to electrical surges/interruption, as well as electromagnetic pulse.

Scare mongering to justify the existence of having a protective government. If the US were not such a holes in foreign policy we would NOT need protection.

Because if our foreign policy was PC then other countries would suddenly become pacifist and benevolent?

Interesting thought process there.

Probably not, but your country wouldn't create more terrorists that hate them and want destruction for them.

If another country stepped in to "help" you with your mass shooting epidemics and positioned their army outside of every school for protection, you'd be cool with that?

Lots of SCADA systems don't have the ability to do anything other than monitor.

My doctor prescribe my medications in 90 day supplies. My pharmacy will only provide me with 30 day refills. Because one particular medication can be used to murder unsuspecting victims as it is rather toxic.

But obviously it isn’t a planned civil uprising situation. Some of us could take out whole regions for far longer than six months and let you keep your electricity so long as it was produced elsewhere.
