Lament for a Salad Fork

I buy you, salad package
I try to eat healthy
I know you're in there,
hidden, stealthy

You're the tiny salad fork
Sometimes you're there, sometimes not
Sometimes you're mentioned on the package I bought

Too small to use, too small to see
Under the trimmings and dressing

Then I see you, on the end of my fork
I think for a moment, could this tiny thing work?

I almost ate you, then threw you away
Tiny plastic fork, in the trash where you lay
