I havent particpated in many cortez threads at all actually.

IOn fact, as I said in one of my videos, although from what I read of her i dsilike her socialists policies and feel she is uniformed, I alos know that most of what I have read about her is from media outlets with an axe to grind about her, so I am trying to withold judgement.

As to her statements here, I dont really have a problem at all with them.

Now her color, I had seen a few pictures of her and her color never corssed my mind. All I have read of her background is she was a poor bartender in new york. I didnt read much race stuff, with actually I think is to her credit, though I could have just missed it.

Her name sounded hispanic, but it didnt register with me when looking at her that oh, here is an Hispanic lady.

Here is the first google picture of her I found, which is a fair likeness looking at others.

Here is beto o'rourke, who also has a Hispanic sounding name

Who is more "brown"?

I only know Beto is not hispanic because I saw outlets comment that his first name is actually not beto and he may be going by that to sound more ethnic.

Again, I am not saying I am so beyond race I dont notice it. If ocasio cortez was darker I would have noticed it.

But had I saw her involved in an incident without knowing her name and asked to give a description, I would not have said "brown"

They look like typical Americans to me (from over the pond)...

Edit to add: Dude's nose looks a bit funny though.

Her and people like her always go straight towards giving themselves raises as soon as they can.
They can't survive on the straight and narrow, they have to exist in a system of graft, greed, blackmail, and corruption.

It's super easy when their supporters are stupid, and their colleagues are already corrupt and in for life. Just look at Pelosi, Waters, Sanders, and Feinstein for proof of concept.

In her tweet, Cortez isn't asking for a raise for herself. She's expressing her surprise and dismay that so many staffers and interns have to work two jobs, one of them being public service and the other being food and beverage service! She's asking that staffers, and interns, be paid a "living wage".

In Hispanic circles she would be considered white. She just gets lots of sun. Her sun tan doesn't make her brown...

Having actually seen a photo of her, she just looks American. A blend of genetics from across the centuries...

She didn't mention anything about how well her staff is paid.
Or are they all volunteer toadies and sycophants trying to use her to promote themselves?

Sorry, maybe I'm not reading the same paragraph you are, OP.

I'm pretty sure she's talking about congressional staffers.

The irony of this is that republicans are more likely to pay their interns than democrats.www.huffingtonpost.com...

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced in August that it would pay intern classes in the future after 13 interns signed a letter protesting unpaid internships, which had limited nonwhite and working-class people in the applicant pool. In a June 2017 report, Pay Our Interns, a nonprofit group advocating for more paid internships, found that more than 90 percent of House members don’t pay their interns. In the Senate, 51 percent of Republicans and 31 percent of Democrats paid their interns some kind of compensation. Interns on Capitol Hill shared stories with CNN in early September about the sacrifices they made to be able to work on Capitol Hill, including skipping meals and walking miles in the rain. Congressional interns will spend an estimated $6,000 of their own money during an internship for housing, travel, food and other expenses, according to Pay Our Interns. The new appropriations bill, if signed by President Donald Trump, would add an average of $20,000 for each House member and $50,000 for each senator in an allowance to pay office interns, Vox estimated. Most congressional offices employ several interns at a time.

So basically, this is a push beyond the allotment they are already given for staff members. Which further puts a fly in the ointment of this, as senators are already given nearly a million dollars to pay staff!
www.senate.gov...

The MRA for each Representative is calculated based on three components, including personnel , which is the same for each Member ( $944,671 for each Member in 2017 )

What this tells us is that she not only doesn't know what in tar-nation she is doing, but doesn't realize that her fellow congress members are not even using what they are given, if they have "unpaid" staff.

Also if you are interested in the House, all of their expenditures that are paid for by the government are required to be recorded and reported. (www.house.gov...)
There is no excuse for the lack of understanding here, as each member is allowed up to 18 full time staff members, and if they are underpaid it is the the sole fault of their employer... aka the Senator or Representative they work for... as they either have too much staff, or don't know that they already have plenty of money to work with.

what is trying to hard? having citations of the amount of money already freely available to Representatives and Senators? A Freshman Representative not knowing that they should have more than enough to pay their staff? That they don't really need interns when they can have 18 people paid in their own office?

Except they're lined up by the dozens for those jobs. The wage isn't low because the meanies on capitol hill are greedy and don't want to pay them. The wage is low because there a ton of people willing to do it for next to nothing. Makes you wonder, why are so many people willing to work 100 hours a week (50 of which are basically unpaid) to be around a congressman? Altruism? Or is it to grease the skids for their futures?

Careful, your prejudice is showing.

It's comments like yours that show how you have no substance. You invoke the race card when facts are brought up, and the gender card when you feel insecure.

Nobody cares what color or race she is. People seem to care she's so young and inexperienced and seem to be commenting on that. Perhaps play the age card?

I had not noticed her skin color at all. In fact now that I am looking at pictures of her, she seems lighter than many girls I know that would call themselves white, many of whom are italian. i If she had been darker I would have noticed it but it wouldn't have mattered to me. But honestly from the pictures I saw of her i never thought of her as brown.

Noticing something isnt wrong. Insinuating anyone with a problem with her does so because she is "brown" is a joke and clearly only a racist would feel such a thing.

I noticed she is a socialist, I dislike her policies.

Her skin color means absolutely nothing to me.

Don't play dumb. Her mother and father are Puerto Rican, and her name is obviously Hispanic.

I in no way insinuated that anybody had a problem with her because of her race. It was a counter to all the 0ranGe mAn baD nonsense that gets tossed around here. The right's obsessive hate for her is no different that the far left's hatred for Trump. Nobody hates Trump because he's orange.

What prejudice am I showing, eh? I like her. I am relieved to see a young woman, who lives a middle class life, who hasn't been corrupted by money and career politics get into power. She'll tone down once she gets into office, and I think she'll work very hard for her people. I did NOT invoke a race card. I'm making fun of the "orange man bad" crowd. And where did I bring up her gender?

The only facts stated in this thread are that she said her salary will be a living wage. It's true. I don't see why she's being made fun of for it?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sure knows how to trigger white insecure senior citizens from the south

I watched Jeff Dunham last night... I was so triggered I was almost rolling in the floor.

Is "triggered" the new code word for "laughing"? I'll update my leftist translator program. Thanks!

I think if they want their underlings to have better pay maybe they should cut theirs down to accommodate.

House members get $174,000 per year.

I would think staffers take the job for the perks.

Staff Assistant salaries at United States House of Representatives can range from … $25,269-$40,218. (glassdoor)

I don’t think this is bad for an intern, their is a @ss load of medical assistants in this country making 25K-30K or less per year and I don't see anyone fighting for higher wages for them.

United States House of Representatives Interns earn $30,000 annually, or $14 per hour, which is equal to the national average for all Interns at $30,000 annually and 68% lower than the national salary average for all working Americans. (Careerbliss)

When I was interning at a massive company while I was going though college I got $12 per hour and had to work in a clothing store too.

Again, I explained myself.

Beto sounds hispanic and looks more brown, yet he isnt. I dont care about race and dont really look into people parents, etc.

If you are riffing off orange man bad you should make it more clear.

The riff doesnt work really though, because orange man bad works because trump haters routinely mock him for his skin color.

Show me people that dislike cortez mocking her skin color.

In addition, it is a common argument to claim disliking someone or policies that happen to be "brown" or other colors is because of the color.

I could show you many many examples of that on ats alone.

But fine, I accept your explanation that you dont think that people that have a problem with her have it because of her race.
