A soviet was an elected local, regional, or national council.

Yes Andy now all we need to make it real is another Bush or John Foster Dulles. To help out with finance and some one like Ford, to supply engines and lets not forget Rockerfeller who was providing fuel. Without their help Hitler could`nt have invaded anywhere.
Yes things are heating up every where and it feels like we are all on the edge of some interesting times.

In reality, as the Communist Party controlled "democracy", the elections typically had one name on the ballot. Elections were a bit of a joke.

Apparently there is a butter shortage and increased demand.

Ms Clayton's view not withstanding, I blame 'heartthrob' tv chef James Martin who has said everything tastes better with butter.

If Germany, then surely the Fourth Reich? The Third Reich being Germany's second attempt at European unification, while the French tried under Napoleon. Of course the Russian's also tried under the Soviet Union. The Germany has done very well out of the EU and their leadership of the Euro, demonstrating their ability to finally find a way to take it all over without killing millions!!!

On the OP. The French certainly know how to riot. They have a lot of pent-up anger which finds expression in violent protest. Macron is unpopular, but is loved by the EU. The warning signs were there when Macron played the EU anthem when he won the election.

As Macron is playing games over Brexit, I hope his presidency is plagued with problems.

I used to love reading Zerohedge but over time they have been proven to be wrong time and time again. It's basically doom porn for the financial minded.

Anyway, if the poll they quote is accurate, I would imagine that a total turn around of their governance is probably in order. I do not know enough about French government to know how the people of France will go about it nor how urgent the change is needed to happen.

We all know the French have a very long history of revolting against their leaders and maybe this time is no different.

I meant fourth Reich and nearly edited it but didn't as the comparison was with the Soviets.
Macron screwed himself over, the French don't do dictators, they are a different EU breed lol
The cops are well tame compared to British cops from all the videos I've seen. If it was London they would have been kettled and ringleaders would have been tased.

in America everyone would accept the gas tax and then blame poor people for complaining about the austerity measure. at least these people are conscious enough to realize they are being screwed

Mad bastards will be freezing. LoL

They should be at it in London as it's not like the Tories in Westminster don't deserve a right good few hundred thousand peeps, banging, and on their doorstep demanding answers.

That and any vice tax. I mean at this point it seems the only people that do smoke are youngsters and poor people. The two segments that just cannot afford to smoke.

Oh right....... I see what you mean. Suppose fuel gonna have that effect. Yep, good point. But double the cost in two years? Something's not right somewhere

It's the same here. Butter used to be $2.00 a pound and now it's $4.00 for the cheapest brand. The name brands go for $5.00-6.00

Bet heads are going to roll at the police station. Wonder if Macron will use the military to squash any rebellion?

Which military??

Surely not the new 'EU army' I thought that was for a show of power

some sabre rattling, not merely for quelling the peasants rebellions!!

Where's here?

Marcon is trying to make France more competitive, especially as a way to grab business from the UK when (if) Brexit happens e.g. reducing business red-tap and the higher rate of tax. To balance tax cuts to business he's pushing social reform, like capping pensions and reducing generous welfare. All this makes him unpopular. Sad face.

Remember the protests last year? It's essentially an uprising against the ultra-rich 1% and Macrons "reforms".

poverty, pensions, taxation and banks, the ecological transition, reform of the institutions, employment and the salaries, economy, migration policy, health...

franceinfo (translation)

Which is a damn good reason to protest, funny how the media however fails to mention it.
