Now that I have your attention:

According to a book I read many years ago titled THE BORMAN BROTHERHOOD by Willian Stevenson
- A fascinating book that covered what happened to the Nazi leaders not captured immediately after WWII
- Martin Borman was never found but there was speculation about him - Eichman, famous for the murder of many thousands, if not millions of Jews, etc., we know was captured by Israelis [I believe it was in Argentina] and hanged in Israel swearing to the end that he "was only following orders".

Most fascinating part of the book though was the genealogy that intelligence agencies did on Hitler
- They concluded with reasonable certainty that he was 25% Jewish !
- Maybe a genealogical experiment that went wrong !?!?

Now let us give the parties in question a chance to answer this thread by quoting their words of 'wisdom':

“History is a set of lies agreed upon.” ― Napoleon Bonaparte

“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.” ― adolf hitler

“Courage isn't having the strength to go on - it is going on when you don't have strength.”
― Napoleon Bonaparte

“To conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens.” ― Adolf Hitler

“Imagination governs the world.” ― Napoleon Bonaparte

“The very first essential for success is a perpetually constant and regular employment of violence.”
― Adolf Hitler

“Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide.”
― Napoleon Bonaparte

“The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.” ― Adolf Hitler

“Show me a family of readers, and I will show you the people who move the world.”
― Napoleon Bonaparte

“The great strength of the totalitarian state is that it forces those who fear it to imitate it.”
― Adolf Hitler

“Impossible is a word to be found only in the dictionary of fools.” ― Napoleon Bonaparte

“Humanitarianism is the expression of stupidity and cowardice.” ― Adolf Hitler

“There are but two powers in the world, the sword and the mind.
In the long run the sword is always beaten by the mind”
― Napoleon Bonaparte

"A leader is a dealer in hope."
- Napoleon Bonaparte

Now do you understand the fundamental difference between Napoleon, the despot of enlightenment and
Hitler, the beast of the abyss ?!?!

strangely, I think Napoleon was driven by thoughts of personal glory whereas Hitler (However misguidedly) saw himself as someone to make his country great.

Both subject to narcissistic tendencies, but one more able to realise the truly evil plans than the other.

I think if Hitler had a tomb like Napoleon, it wouldn't be venerated in the same way by as many people.

I think that is a pretty good summary.

It's really a bit sad isn't it
A medal that reminds people of the loss of a loved one

Sad world when Hitlers and Napoleons cause such horrific destruction and people follow so eagerly

Could you say the same about Hitler? - Could you say his twisted racist ideology even be considered as having any benign reason?
- Or was Hitler, in final analysis, mo more than the ultimate Human beast cursng the German people and the rest of the World ?

Racism is horrible and disgusting.

That said, recent history doesn't only have Hitler as a blight for collective humanity.

Stalin and Mao were in many ways more effective in destruction. Their disgusting crimes are not spoken of as much because they weren't considered racist, because they killed their own people.

I for one think that when you knowingly make a point to kill millions of people, the reason why is shadowed by the fact you're willing to do it.

Racism is horrible and disgusting, right, now please impress that on the followers of the black flag, you know, those who slaughter Chistians.

Interesting that this quote - oft quoted by the US gun lobby and the NRA et al - was never recorded as being spoken by Hitler. It's one of those made-up quotes that have been made to prove a point.

What Hitler was actually recorded as saying was ... "The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so."

On quotes as window's into peoples thoughts..

Here's one from the Duke of Wellington after Waterloo, a battle that was Napoleons last as he was finally bettered... "My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won: the bravery of my troops hitherto saved me from the greater evil; but to win such a battle as this of Waterloo, at the expense of so many gallant friends, could only be termed a heavy misfortune but for the result to the public."

And another - this time by Churchill who was Hitler's nemesis... "Hitler is a monster of wickedness, insatiable in his lust for blood and plunder. Not content with having all Europe under his heel, or else terrorised into various forms of abject submission, he must now carry his work of butchery and desolation among the vast multitudes of Russia and of Asia. The terrible military machine, which we and the rest of the civilized world so foolishly, so supinely, so insensately allowed the Nazi gangsters to build up year by year from almost nothing, cannot stand idle lest it rust or fall to pieces. It must be in continual motion, grinding up human lives and trampling down the homes and the rights of hundreds of millions of men. Moreover it must be fed, not only with flesh but with oil."

Sure, we can do it with Myanmar and Muslims, and Saudi Arabia (who we back) and Yemen.

That aside let's not derail the thread. This is a historical question meant for historical context.

No need to conflate with geopolitics of today.

You got your Caesar salad.
Napoleon, the pastry
Bismark
Kaiser Roll
chateaubriand
General Tso chicken
Hamantaschen

The salad was named after a Yank chef, not the Emperor of Rome.

OK - Try this:

Gun Control in the Third Reich: Disarming the Jews and "Enemies of the State"
by Stephen P. Halbrook

Based on newly-discovered, secret documents from German archives, diaries and newspapers of the time, Gun Control in the Third Reich presents the definitive, yet hidden history of how the Nazi regime made use of gun control to disarm and repress its enemies and consolidate power. The countless books on the Third Reich and the Holocaust fail even to mention the laws restricting firearms ownership, which rendered political opponents and Jews defenseless. A skeptic could surmise that a better-armed populace might have made no difference, but the National Socialist regime certainly did not think so—it ruthlessly suppressed firearm ownership by disfavored groups.

Gun Control in the Third Reich spans the two decades from the birth of the Weimar Republic in 1918 through Kristallnacht in 1938. The book then presents a panorama of pertinent events during World War II regarding the effects of the disarming policies. And even though in the occupied countries the Nazis decreed the death penalty for possession of a firearm, there developed instances of heroic armed resistance by Jews, particularly the Warsaw ghetto uprising.

According to a US census our family was one of 4 families with the same last name, that made it out alive from Turkey and Armenia before the Armenian Holocaust. 1.5 million were murdered, including women and children.

They both focussed on the masses. I don't think them populists in the sense that they didn't cater to public want, but rather to public need as perceived by them and few others.

They differed in that Napoleon wanted to elevate the common standard of all people to literacy, dignity, and self-determination. Napoleon was correct in much of his aim in social endeavors. Those that succeeded him reaped the rewards of a strong and intelligent, productive class of universal citizen.

Hitler wanted to enslave the common person in a caste system based on nonsensical genetic background information. He also envisioned a society that constantly pressures the working class to exist in an insect-like mental state with all devotion and effort being directed by a ridiculously elevated upper class.

Also, Hitler was a mass murderer first and a dictator second. Napoleon was a conqueror, but he was a liberator as well.

Hitler was a good soldier but a terrible military tactician. He had a knack for hiring the best talent.

Napoleon was a mediocre soldier and a brilliant military tactician. He had a habit of ignoring his advisers.
