Another snowflake thread? Jeez man, time to grow some thicker skin. One station choosing to not play one song does not mean someone is being censored or banned. You really need to stop throwing that word (censored) around like you know what it means because you obviously don't have any idea.

Ha ha ha, BRILLIANT! You should send that to the radio station.

It always starts with just one song or one radio station.

There comes a point where these absurdities should be ignored.
We should just roll our eyes at these folks and move on, you know?
They don't deserve our attention.

They control academia, which has led to the people that come out of universities spreading this garbage all over

Um, that's quite a leap you made there buddy. lol.

It’s not a leap at all

Academia, particularly the humanities is absolutely controlled by cultural Marxist whose job it is to create division like this

I can show you example after example

For a good start, look up universities suggestions for appropriate Halloween costumes

Like I said earlier, there are times when we should just roll our eyes and walk away.
I think this is one of those times. I am on a university campus almost every day of my life.
Obviously, you aren't.

You have a nice evening.

So you think this will lead to a total ban of this song nationwide? The radio station is dumb for not playing it but calling it censorship? That's just as dumb if not moreso.

Your opinion.

*shrugs*

Not surprized you disagree with me, but then again, I'm against censorship.

So there is that.

I am not on campus now

I was for ten years, as a student and employee

Universities in general are as I said, particularly in the humanities

Read Jonathan haidt of heterodux academy on how social justice leftist control universities overwhelmingly

Or don’t

Apparently you are at a good university so good for you

Care to share which one so we may celebrate it?

From 2014
From 2016
From 2017

I think DB knows exactly what he's talking about when he uses the term.

Maybe I'm wrong as well, however I don't need a weatherman to tell me it's raining.

Yep. If someone came after my record collection they should anticipate some trouble. I've got some nice ones from way back.

So what you are essentially saying is education makes you stupid.

Theses days it does. The song is no more sinister than Rudolph is.

During the 1940s, when Hollywood celebrities attended parties, they were expected to perform. In 1944, Frank Loesser wrote "Baby, It's Cold Outside" for his wife, Lynn Garland, and himself to sing at a housewarming party in New York City at the Navarro Hotel. They sang the song to indicate to guests that it was time to leave. Loesser often introduced himself as the "evil of two Loessers" because of the role he played in the song.[1]

Garland wrote that after the first performance, "We become instant parlor room stars. We got invited to all the best parties for years on the basis of 'Baby.' It was our ticket to caviar and truffles. Parties were built around our being the closing act." In 1948, after years of performing the song, Loesser sold it to MGM for the 1949 romantic comedy Neptune's Daughter. Garland was furious. She wrote, "I felt as betrayed as if I'd caught him in bed with another woman."[1]

en.wikipedia.org...

It was written in a different time and had a different meaning in the context of that time. Certainly it is far less nasty and blatant than a lot of songs that get pop play on Top 40 stations all over today.

No, it's not censorship.... yet. Of course, since one station stopped playing it, that means other stations will likely follow suit. Then when we have 20 or 30 stations not playing it, someone will decide that it really isn't suitable for any stations to play it, so they'll arrange boycotts. By then it's easier to just strike it from the playlist than deal with boycotts and angry advertisers. Pretty soon it'll be gone, but no censorship, right? As long as it's done the 'right' way.

Just like Huckleberry Finn, Blazing Saddles, the Dukes of Hazzard... get it gone and never let anyone bring up that 'c' word.

Listen to the last verse:

"Yeah, it's only gonna be a second, boy,
Till they take away all of this country
And they'll tell you not to listen
To this here song.

And that far off sound of freedom's
Gonna be an echo of the past,
And the final tune is
Gonna be sad and long.

And it's only gonna be about an eyeblink, boy,
Till they take out the wool and blind us
So we just can't read all the messages
On the wall.

But the only words that matter
Oughta be scribbled all over them billboards
In big old black and bloody letters
Ten feet tall!

There won't be no country music!
There won't be no rock-n-roll!
Cause when they take away our country
They'll take away our soul!

There won't be no country music;
There won't be no rock-n-roll.
Cause when they take away our country
They'll take away our soul.

There won't be no country music;
There won't be no rock-n-roll.
Cause when they take away our country
They'll take away our soul.

There won't be no country music;
There won't be no rock-n-roll.
Cause when they take away our country
They'll take away our soul.

When they take away our country
They'll take away our soul...
"

Maybe what they need to be focusing on are all the booty/money/disrespect for women, booty in some of todays' "popular music". Talk about some degrading, mysogynistic , offensive lyrics.
Did I mention Booty?

SMDH

Good point.

Then again, these female pop stars today do it to themselves, with the dress and choreography they strut about with.

If it's not censorship, when can it be defined as such?

1 station? 5? 1,000?

I hear your position, in that one station isn't a claim to the name.

I'm against censorship too, this isn't censorship though, not even close. If you keep up with this you'll make the word lose all meaning.

You remind me of an SJW these days, whine whine whine.

It's this sort of mentality, catering to the ultra-sensitive that leads us down the road to insanity.

Banning songs..
Banning thoughts..
Banning freedom to pray in public/school..
Banning books.
Banning words.

It's either all of it, in it's ugly, uncensored freedom, or it's over the edge into oblivion.

I do believe it is the wish of certain elements of our country that want to push everything over into oblivion. No laws, just power, and control.

The power to control your thoughts, what you see, hear, listen to, think, say and do.

One of the best renditions of this song,
Lyle Lovett & Kat Edmonson - Baby, it's cold outside.

Freaking idiots that want to ban this work, especially sung this way, are definitely the ones to be banned, and could never come close to the class and style that produced this.

Woo! Love me some Suicidal Tendencies.

As to the OP: patently ridiculous. I know our store is playing a remake version of that song and I sure don't hear any outrage over it. Of course... our store is also playing a Pitbull song. Something tells me whoever put together that playlist doesn't pay any attention to the lyrics. At. all.

As already mentioned, it's going to get worse before it gets better. I just hope the pendulum starts swinging the other way soon. I dread the future if not.
