Simple Yea or Nay, with undecided and abstaining suitable, with brief explanation of opinion and reason for vote.

We are talking about men, women and children, any race or ethnicity, who attempts to seek refugee status in the USA by gaining entry by air, land or sea.

Going to start things off with a Nay vote and not condone the use of lethal force.

Have several reasons for justification of my position, with the main one being, that everyone should have the right to seek asylum wherever and however they choose and that the use of lethal force to prevent someone from applying for it, is a human rights violation and that each person should have the right to at least have their cases heard.

Killing them, is not the answer and in some situations it is clear, that the USA Government is responsible for creating majority of the situations that many are fleeing from, in one way or another.

Empathy goes a long way and one only need to review the history of the United States and how it gained all the territory it acquired and how...

Not saying granting everyone that applies for refugee status asylum...or anyone for that matter, just that they should be allowed to present their case and especially if the reason they are fleeing is a result of US intervention and/or regime change.

Not necessary at all...

Begin training them for the new police force which will be needed when they return to their host country now governed by the USA.

This is a BS question.

Why should Americans feel guilty about things that happened before any of us were born?

Why should these people be allowed to leach off American taxpayers after refusing aid from other countries?

Edit to add:

No reasonable person or anyone in a position of authority or anyone in the administration is advocating using lethal force on unarmed civilians.

Nonsense.

if you just allow people to storm the border they will run over us. They need to know we are not a lawless country. You would not allow a known cartel member or terrorist to enter this country, if they tried hopping the fence they would be shot. We do not know who these people are, they need to get checked to make sure they are not a threat to the citizens where they go, they could be known pediphiles or rapists for all we know. They may be coming here to rob people. We know nothing about them till they fill out their paperwork and get checked out.

Till then, if one of them attacks someone, they should be at least tazered or wounded to stop them then returned to the border. Some of these people come from other parts of the world, we do not just let them force their way in.

So yeah, Our border patrol should be allowed to use lethal force if necessary.

Sorry but this is not as simple as yay or nay. Asylum-seekers SHOULD do so at the first country they enter when leaving their own (not traveling 2000 miles or pick and choose which country to enter). And a lot of the current asylum-seekers aren't actually seeking asylum... they're seeking employment. That's not a valid request for entering our country.

Then you have migrants that could very well trespass onto private property, where lethal force can be used, by law.

There are several different angles, levels and scenarios that simply aren't covered with a nay or yay.

That said, in general, lethal force isn't necessary.

I agree with you on that. Just because we had some overpowering jerks running things years ago does not mean the overpowering jerks running things now will do the same things the old jerks did.

That was hard to write.

Nay on deadly force (unless in self-defense or defense of others), yay on beanbag loaded shotguns.

Also the line of the US caused all the problems in the refugees home country is getting a bit long in the tooth without evidence. That’s kind of like saying Great Britain caused all the problems in Colonial America so all the settlers sought asylum...oh, wait, they FOUGHT BACK!

The map above with war, no war, and benefits says it all.

No, we have all sorts of non-lethal weapons at our disposal. Some acoustic devices come to mind.

One word.

Landmines.....

At least until we get those land sharks on patrol.

Maybe math would be the answer: How many people / children die per year trying to cross + how many suffer for it VS how many would be saved if a few were made examples of and the rest were effectively deterred from further attempts?

Do the math and tell me all about it.

That depends on which flag they are flying and how they plan on crossing the border. If they plan to try to take the citizenship test or even want to visit our nation, fine. Otherwise if we're talking about an invading army disregarding our laws starting with immigration laws and flying a foreign flag as they march toward us, handle it as what it is an invading army.

Qualified "yay."

No on using lethal force as first resort... Yes for using lethal force as last resort.

As already noted, they have had plenty of opportunities along the way to make a place and better life for themselves. They are demanding more that they have no right to demand and no expectation to receive. They have been told "no" in no uncertain terms. If they force their way in, then we know they have no respect or regard for our laws or our people and will do anything. It is an invasion and therefore warrants self-defense, and lethal force is justified when all other efforts have failed.

I don't want to see anyone hurt. But our responsibility and duty is to our citizens.

Use all the force necessary to deter these leeches and any that are thinking about following.

Live rounds.
Mortars.
Airstrikes.
Landmines.
Artillery.

All of it and every option in the table.

Use these leeches to create a hole 500 meters deep so that you can pick off any latecomers as the crawl over the edge.

Scorched earth.
