I heard this week about pirates and earrings.

Pirates were supposed to pay for their caskets and funerals, and they preferred their "home port".

So the earrings were usually expensive, and supposed to pay for the funeral, and the name of the port was engraved on them.

Of course the navy didn't follow all that, but pirates between each other wanted to be buried at their "home port".
