Indeed. Beheaded birds were dropped into a hot vat of water to make the quills easier to pull out.

You know........ I think there is a mathematical relationship afoot here, sort of like the Inverse Square Law: The colder it is, the less the gobbler needs to be washed. Primarily in tropical zones where contagions spread more prevalently , the wash-off is more critical, directly relational to the care taken in not letting the dangerous microbes, germs, and bacteria flow around the human-occupied area.

I'm almost certain data could be compiled to support the thesis that germs in colder temps don't survive as well, and people in colder temps aren't as susceptible to germs.
