For weeks before the midterm elections, President Trump warned ominously about the threat from a caravan of migrants streaming from Central America toward Mexico’s border with the United States. It was a fearsome mix of criminals and “unknown Middle Easterners,” Mr. Trump claimed darkly, one that constituted a genuine national emergency.

But since the election last week, Mr. Trump has tweeted about the caravan exactly once — to issue a proclamation preventing those who cross the border illegally from applying for asylum in the United States. Fox News, which faithfully amplified Mr. Trump’s warnings about the migrants, has gone similarly quiet on the subject.

Election Day, that Mr. Trump was exploiting the caravan for political purposes. But analysts, historians and veterans of previous administrations said there were few comparable instances of a commander in chief warning about what he called a looming threat, only to drop it as soon as people voted.

LINK

In the 6 days leading up to the midterm elections, Fox News mentioned the caravan 21 times per episode. Since the elections, it has been mentioned just one time. Just as I pointed out in this previous thread, the caravan was nothing but a political ploy by Trump to anger his naive and gullible followers.

Leaked Military Documents show the caravan isn't the threat Trump claims it is.

In the above thread, many people here defended Trump claiming that the caravan is a great threat and he should send the troops. Even though the documents I provided clearly stated that no terrorists were within the caravan several people argued I didn't know what I was talking about and that Trump knew what he was doing. Now that it's obvious the caravan was just a political ploy I would like to know if anyone has changed their opinions or if you are upset that the President toyed with your emotions?

Now that it is obvious that all of this rhetoric was not in good faith do you still feel the same? Are you ok being lied to about issues of national security?

“I’ve never before seen an American president, after going all over the country about this national crisis, then the day after an election shrug,” said Douglas Brinkley, a presidential historian at Rice University.

While the caravan has faded from television screens, the costs of Mr. Trump’s response to it have not. Nearly 6,000 active-duty troops remain deployed from the Gulf Coast to Southern California, where they are putting up tents and stringing concertina wire to face a ragtag band that is still not near the border.

Did he say he couldnt remember it? Because I'm not seeing that in any source you posted. Twisting reality to match yours is disingenuous and a MSM thing to do. People with any shred of common sense easily see through it.

It was shiny. But it lost its luster. When it didn't seem to work for the election.
Then the fires in California were shiny. Threatening to withhold aid wasn't shiny.
Working on the election fraud thing. Got the buffer working.

If a few thousand people marching toward your country, waving the flag of a homeland they’re allegedly fleeing in fear from all the while vowing to ignore the rule of law where they are headed isn’t a big deal for you then I would like to know what is?

Any sensible country (or even sensible person) would be concerned about thousands of unvetted people saying they were going to illegally enter.

Wake up to yourself mate

Sigh....

So you think he handled it by sending 6000 troops to the border to do what? Put up tents and string wire? They are legally barred from enforcing domestic law. So if this really was an invasion they couldn't shoot, they couldn't fight.

So boob, if this is such an invasion what good are these troops doing down there?

To deal with, by the Pentagon's estimate, 1,400 people. Unarmed and seeking asylum.

Doesn't seem cost effective to me. But the president said do it, so they got's to do it.

The troops deployed as part of Operation Faithful Patriot are advancing the Customs and Border Protection mission by providing planning, engineering, transportation, logistics, and medical support. These military units will serve in a limited, Title 10 capacity, engaging in activities such as barrier construction, airlift, and medical treatment.

It's one thing to have support for something, in this case your clear disdain for Trump.

It's another to remain willfully ignorant of all sides of the story and what is actually happening.

Sorry, I disagree. What is ridiculous is that last week it was an invasion!!! And now it's forgotten and not spoken of.

The troops he sent can't do anything. They are barred from enforcing domestic law, so it is just a waste of money.

What's really sad is a site that has a motto of Deny Ignorance has so many people who are willing and even excited to be lied to. Did you believe him when he told you it was an invasion? If so, then he should be doing more than sending troops that can't do much wouldn't you think? What about those terrorists that are hiding in the caravan, shouldn't he still be screaming and yelling about that?

Look, it's obvious that you are one of the ones that would lap up Trumps runny #s, completely incapable of thinking beyond what he tells you.

You need to look in a mirror. Trump attempted to make a normal migrant caravan that happens multiple times per year appear to be an invasion. He blew it out of proportion lying and saying there are terrorists in it. He wasted taxpayer money sending troops to the border to literally twiddle their thumbs because the border control has handled every other migrant caravan without their support.

And yet, there are people like you who defend this behavior like a good dog. Makes me sick to see how easy it is to brainwash the populace into believing a false reality.

I am willing to bet that in your head this caravan is full of MS-13 criminals and possibly Al-Queda and that Trump has done the right thing. You believe that this really is an invasion and that the border really needs these troops.

You need to wake up, unless you are happy being on a leash.

Actually I hope the Marines are permanently stationed along the border to continue to assist the Border Patrol. Now when coyotes and traffickers fire at a border guard, they can hopefully receive a Hellfire missile in return.

That was actually really clever. Props

Total BS....

The Pueblo Sin Fronteras (“People Without Borders”) is a project of La Familia Latina Unida, a Chicago, Illinois-based 501(c)(4) illegal immigration advocacy organization formed in 2001 by Elvira Arellano, an activist for immigrants living illegally in the United States. The organization is affiliated with the Chicago-based 501(c)(3) pro-illegal immigration groups Centro Sin Fronteras and Pueblo Sin Fronteras.

And those 1400 are going to stay in 1 big group and all approach the border together?
How do you know they are unarmed? You’ve personally screened them all, made sure they are genuine refugees, aren’t carrying any communicable diseases etc etc?

As for the cost, unless those he is sending are reservists they were already on the clock and would cost the same regardless of where they are stationed in the US.

Probably not. 350 arrived today.

Are you familiar with the screening procedures? Or are you just feeding on the fear factor?

Not reserves, no. Active duty. And yes, any redeployment costs money.
