Rumors she is done?
Rumors are that it's been discovered her cancer has returned and that she'll be resigning in a matter of days.
This timing is....odd.

I know RBG had heart surgery in (2012?), but this is the first I've heard about her having a history of cancer.

She may have been holding off the announcement in hopes Dems would gain control of the Senate.

yeah that was before her fall and breaking 3 ribs so not sure that will apply any more
In 1999, Ginsburg was diagnosed with colon cancer; she underwent surgery that was followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. During the process, she did not miss a day on the bench.[108] Ginsburg was physically weakened by the cancer treatment, and she began working with a personal trainer. Since 1999, Bryant Johnson, a former Army reservist attached to the Special Forces, has trained Ginsburg twice weekly in the justices-only gym at the Supreme Court.[109][110] In spite of her small stature, Ginsburg saw her physical fitness improve since her first bout with cancer; she was able to complete 20 full push-ups in a session before her 80th birthday.[109][111] On February 5, 2009, she again underwent surgery, this time for pancreatic cancer.[112][113] Ginsburg had a tumor that was discovered at an early stage.[112] She was released from a New York City hospital on February 13 and returned to the bench when the Supreme Court went back into session on February 23, 2009.[114][115][116] On September 24, 2009, Ginsburg was hospitalized in Washington DC for lightheadedness following an outpatient treatment for iron deficiency and was released the following day.[117] On November 26, 2014, she had a stent placed in her right coronary artery after experiencing discomfort while exercising in the Supreme Court gym with her personal trainer.[118][119] On November 8, 2018, she was hospitalized after fracturing three ribs in a fall in her office at the Supreme Court.[120]
so yeah shes been through a lot and shes 85
Beat cancer – twice In 1999 and 2000, Ginsburg underwent surgery and chemotherapy for colon cancer. In 2009, she underwent surgery and treatment for the early stages of pancreatic cancer. Now, Ginsburg is known for her health routine that includes frequent gym visits and push ups. In March, she fended off rumors of retirement by saying she's "feeling fine."

Completely plausible.
Just seems like a landslide of news directly after the elections.

I don't think Justice Ginsburg is a suitable recipient. The new ribs won't graft. They'll probably be rejected.
