If you mean in this specific instance? Possibly not. This hardly seems to have been a premeditated killing, a situation in which the killer meant
from the outset to kill or torture someone.
However, there have been terrible crimes committed by people right around the same age as this girl, which WERE clearly premeditated, where it was
clear that the intention of the perpetrators was a determination that they would hurt, injure, or kill and do so for their own, sadistic enjoyment.
That being said, as much as this incident appears to have been very much spur of the moment and a massively malfunctional reaction on the part of the
perpetrator, it is a very, dire, serious malfunction, and a reaction totally outside the realms of normality or explicability. I suspect that a wise
defence counsel would seek to have the perpetrator examined by a psychologist.
