Poll: GOP voters blame news for division in America; Democrats blame Trump

In my state (Wisconsin) the November races are neck to neck, seriously like 50/50

I will say one positive thing about this division is that more people are voting, and going to be voting than maybe we've ever seen before!

I am neither Dem or Rep, but I do fault the news some. I recently saw this ad on the news:

OK, after reading that, it sounds horrible doesn't it?
It's true, but very very misleading. I always wonder about people that take news as fact. I know for both sides there is a lot of misleading going on.

I think it would be horrible if everybody in the country agreed on everything. Or had to agree on everything. So I figure we're divided because this country gives us that freedom.

Fair statement....

But as it stands we're divided against each other and not on how to solve problems.

The talking points of politics rarely touch on what actually plagues the country.

It’s on Trump. If he didn’t give the news inflammatory things to report, they wouldn’t report them. If he really wanted to heal the division he could. All he would have to do is show a little bit of empathy and change his platform to something besides screw the dems.

But if he did that, he wouldn’t have a platform. Most of his base voted for him because they see him as a middle finger to their perceived enemies. If he lost that, that’d be it for him. His base likes that he’s inflammatory. That’s only seen as something bad to everyone else.

There's very little REAL division in this country. Most Democrats are satisfied with how America is becoming greater.

Look at the Sanders/Gillum turnout yesterday: twitter.com...

It's the MEDIA that's saying "America is divided". Most of us in the real world just don't see it in our day-to-day lives.

The division in our country only started 2 years ago?

If that is not a true statement then no, it's not trumps fault.

How can it b e Trump when the media is lying about what Trump says. If people are mad at Trump based on what the media lies and claims Trump says when he never said it, then it's not Trump causing the problem.

Trump: Fake News is the enemy of the people.
Fake News: Trump says the press is the enemy!

I guess in your world it is Trump's fault the media lies.

The division is on the media by a huge margin. The division started about ten years ago, well before President Trump.

I would say it's we the people who are at fault.

Not so long ago we use to think for ourselves then 911 happened and the media found out how to use propaganda to think for us, and we let them.

That's because a lot of the things that plague the country are a result of people doing fairly wasteful and damaging things they like and enjoy and want the government to protect. You can try, but ultimately you can't protect people from themselves.

In your example, Trump is instigating by calling the news Fake. So technically, he started it.

I'm not saying that there aren't false news reports. There are. From FOX. From CNN. However, Trump hasn't called out FOX once for "fake news". Therefore, he's instigating, because he's biased and is saying CNN is fake, but FOX isn't. Even though FOX is just as bad as CNN, and not everything that CNN says is fake. To him, it is, because CNN disagrees with Trump.

Not everything Trump says is true. However, if we call him out for lying and being fake, the wrath of the right is rained down upon us.

If we're going to call out someone for presenting false statements, we need to call out EVERYONE, Trump included.

The same media Trump depends on to get his messages OUT....are the same ones he calls all "fake". So, which is it?

So, all news about, from, around him and all he does? When reported? I'm going with all Trump news from anywhere...is fake. He said so...

Kinda ruins his credibility, huh? I believe him when he says all fake....including reporting on him. So, there you go....

Right.

I once read a book titled '' The Founding Brothers''. Our common reference to founding FATHERS always offers a simplistic notion of unity among those guys which was not true at all. As well it continues the worship of them as father figures. Anyway, this book discusses how the divisions that separated men like Jefferson and Hamilton. Hell, in those days some of those differences were played out on the dueling range.

My thought is that in earlier times this nation was big enough that those differences could continue with little explosive confrontations, well, ah, the Civil War, but otherwise those basic differences continued side by side.
So in my opinion, those differences are now being pushed at one another by both the media and by Trump, but really, aren't they both the same? Trump and the Media? Love him or hate him the media is obsessed with him.

You are on to something there. I was watching a show about people with sleeping issues. There was a sleep specialist doctor. He said since 9/11 his practice has skyrocketed and has never gone down since.

The media has been around since forever but the division is very recent, kinda makes one wonder?

To answer the OP's question...

I don't have time to go look for the meme, but imagine the photo of the cute little girl in the Old El Paso commercials:

Why not both?
