More and more politicians want open borders. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I read some info about the pros and the cons of having a open border and on of the pros were that it would eventually double the GDP. I don't know how reliable that info was but if it is then that is a important fact that should be told.

One of the cons were that there would be more crimes but that will be a easy fix in 10 or so years. 10 years is when nanotechnology comes around in the mainstream. Once most people have nanobots in them the government will be able to track anyone at anytime throwing them in jail if need be.

The problem isn't that mostly Dems want open borders it is that they jumped the gun when technology to handle a massive flow of immigrants is still in the infancy.

I know many people don't want open borders, even I am nervous about it but I believe it is inevitable. It most likely won't happen for decades but Globalization is going to happen and U.S. is at the forefront.

One of the things that makes me doubt Globalization is I truly doubt China and Russia would ever go along with open borders. Imagine if China had open borders before the U.S.? If they did it then we would definitely have to do it.

All I am saying is that good may come from it even though it will completely change the Country. It may not be good in the short term but I think it will be for the betterment of humanity in the long run.

All and all I will prolly be dead by the time open borders happen but it would be cool to see just because it would be an unknown, like Trump was an unknown and look how good that turned out.

I know lots of you hate this idea and tell me why but don't hate it because you think it will destroy America...

It is an adventure to change North America... at least in the beginning, then the world!

What country has open boarders now? No customs, no forms, no boarder control even a little?

Unchecked, unattended-no i.d. boarders-c'mon in is a very bad idea.

Allowed entry? Yes. Allowed asylum? Certainly. Allowed sanctuary? Of course...

But open, and unchecked who is who? Potentially very scary and dangerous.

How can you have open borders when you give welfare, medical care, legal advice, and other perks to anyone who comes across? There is only so much tax money to support immigrants and when the next caravan becomes a million or more people then the whole system breaks. The people supporting open borders have no capability to understand the basic economics and think the USA is full of money trees. I'm sure someone will throw out the old "cut the military budget then" comment. We'll do that when China and Russia disarm.

One might say we just won't offer all those things but still have an open border. So then we end up with a bunch of new homeless and desperate people living on the streets and becoming criminals so they can survive. Essentially bringing the problems they had in their countries with them.

It definitely makes more sense to just take over those countries and establish law and order under the US constitution so that they can break out of their centuries long criminal control. But even that idea is too grand to ever see the light of day. So really its just time for the people in those countries to revolt against their criminal cartel leaders who keep them in poverty. They need to start helping themselves! It took some blood for us to become the prosperous country we are, time for them to do the same.

NOT a single country in the world I am aware of has open borders. The European Union which allows travel between borders without visa is about as close as it gets. Mexico does not have open borders, Americans are not allowed to own property but usually acquire long term leases like a hundred years.

I can't imagine what it would mean if we have free travel between, as we know already many bad guys try and fail and we know many succeed as well. By bad guys, I mean those who wish to harm Americans, not those who are coming to make better lives. NOT exactly fair to those who don't live on one of our borders either like Africans, Russians, Chinese, and the many others that wish to be a part of America.

Those people must wait for years in some cases for visa's and the opportunity. I welcome any and all but the playing field must be level for all. There are lots of ways to improve the immigration system that does not involve open borders. That is just stupid and Congress needs to act, but neither side wants to do anything. They know open borders is stupid but score points by campaigning for it.

Because those people wanting to turn the world "socialist" see that as a means to the goal. If a country is suddenly faced with millions of poor desperate for medical and social services, the country will have no option but to raise taxes, organize state run services and become socialist.

Open borders is one of two policies of the Libertarian Party with which I disagree.

However, I do truly believe that the application and vetting processes for legal immigration could be greatly improved and made much more efficient so that entering the illegal way isn't so enticing.

We also might want to allow U.S. Embassies to accept applications for refugees and asylum seekers instead of making them come to a port of entry at the actual border.

That said, I think that borders are something that should be protected, and sometimes at all costs. There is no country without borders, and if anyone and everyone is allowed to enter, eventually what you get is a Trojan-horse style ability to affect a country by force. Look at what happened to the Native Americans after we were "allowed" to grow in population here...same with the Mexicans in the Southwest U.S.

Hell, Europe would be officially one giant Germany if open borders were a good idea--Hitler would have just had to spread out his army and then initiate attacks from multiple places at one, destroying everyone from the inside out.

I get the humanitarian aspect of it, and how individuals should be able to travel the world with limited hindrances, but that's what passports are for, and it generally works pretty well. But from a strategic standpoint of a nation whose intention is to continue its way of life for its citizenry, open borders is a cancer to that.

I'm not saying that culture is a bad thing, I'm saying that inundation of people uninterested in embracing the culture of the nation into which they are flooding is a bad thing. I grew up in So. California--large populations of people uninterested in the American way of life is a real thing. (But I like the Mexican culture, too, so there's that)

Yes there are, all of the EU except for the UK has border free countries. Anyone can live or work wherever they like. Once you get in the EU you can move anywhere without being stopped at any borders...except the UK. We have a juxtaposed border so our immigration officers are actually on French and Belgian soil stopping unregistered migrants from getting on trains and ferries.
...I voted to leave the EU for the record.

Doesn't that make us racist xenophobes though? You know, heartless bastards who believe in sovereign nations n stuff.
...I'll wear the cap, don't care what liberal do-gooders think, thank # our border is juxtaposed, the French would just let that rabble camped in Calais on the trains and ferries if our officers weren't on their soil.

Do I care??

My family comes first, we all do our share of charitable things in the

community, but family first.

Show me somebody who saves others before their own!!

If there are no borders, there would be no countries.

What you are describing are "open borders," but the borders still exist. Don't try to bring your toilet-versus-restroom logic into this thread, too.

Those lines are country borders. Here is an interactive version of the map so that children can learn the names of the countries within those borders: yourchildlearns.com

BTW, good vote on the Brexit issue, IMO, but I guess that remains to be seen--but no sovereign nation should be beholden, in law or appearance, to a separate governing body. (That's why I despise the UN)

Pmsl!

I totally know the borders in the EU and it's essentially the same thing as no borders, nobody stops you and apart from roadsigns changing language you wouldn't realise you've crossed into another country.
...and Brexit yes, wait and see is the mantra here, could be all sorts of issues depending on what happens, the nation is split.

I hope that there are no major issues (bad ones) that come from it, for your own sake.

Made me chuckle

Cheers man, tempers in Britain are simmering, it's like everyone is waiting to see how it goes before kicking off.
The average person is chilled but all it takes is a few fringe groups to start trouble then people will choose their sides depending on their views.
I've seen protests turn to riots enough times in my life...good job the final deal/decision is in the next month or so, Brits don't generally riot in rainy cold winter...this long hot summer we had would have been different.
