Although, honestly and unfortunately, I couldn’t and wouldn’t watch any of these movies, because I’m just a bit too frightened of horror movies.

Some of you though might be inspired by this list of suggestions of Halloween films by Hayley Tai. Despite my fear I think these horror movies sound very promising.

This year, three film festivals (French Film Festival, Scream Asia and Singapore International Film Festival) have curated individual selections of unusual horror films. Horror film buffs, you will not be disappointed.

Source

the movies suggested are::

Incident in a Ghostland
The Night Eats the World
They Who are Not Seen
Luz
In Fabric

out of these the last choice “In Fabric” would be my favorite. I like artsy satire as a flavor. With my weird taste however I might be the only one here who likes this the best ?

Happy Halloween and have fun watching movies

Thanks for the suggestions! Horror has always been my favorite genre, and the hardest to pull off well in my opinion. I'll be sure to check these out.

whenever anyone asks me about horror i point them to Imprint by Takashi Miike

this # is awesome.

it was part of a collection called masters of horror that showtime put out. each episode had a different director.

this was the only one they would not air

www.imdb.com...

In the 1800s, an American returns to Japan to find the prostitute he fell in love with, but instead learns of the psychical and existential horror that befell her after he left.

I'd also recommend watching some of the many many short horror films on YouTube. I can recommend some if anybody wants, but there are so many that it's worth browsing. They're shorts, so you can't go wrong in experimenting with different titles.

I'll add one to the list, it's a couple of years old but well worth a watch.

Here's a few recent horror flicks.

Mandy (2018) - From the writer/director of Beyond the Black Rainbow. Similar art house 70's-80's homage feel. Stars Nicholas Cage but don't let that scare you off. Synopsis from IMDB:

The enchanted lives of a couple in a secluded forest are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance.

Apostle (2018) - Netflix movie starring Dan Stevens (David in the TV series Legion). A little slow to start but it picks up and gets better and better. Synopsis from IMDB:

In 1905, a drifter on a dangerous mission to rescue his kidnapped sister tangles with a sinister religious cult on an isolated island.

Hereditary (2018) - ensemble cast including Toni Collette and Gabriel Byrne. This was builds. The pacing, atmosphere, etc reminds of The Witch (2015). Synopsis from IMDB:

After the family matriarch passes away, a grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences, and begin to unravel dark secrets.

The Void (2016) - A couple years older but I loved this movie. Shades of Clive Barker. Synopsis from IMDB:

Shortly after delivering a patient to an understaffed hospital, a police officer experiences strange and violent occurrences seemingly linked to a group of mysterious hooded figures.

Cold Skin (2017) - Hard to categorize this one but it's somewhat Lovecraftian. Synopsis from IMDB:

In 1914, a young man arrives at a remote island near the Antarctic Circle to take the post of weather observer only to find himself trapped in a watchtower besieged by deadly creatures which live in hiding on the island.

Every October I pretty much exclusively watch horror films, try to do one a night.

Love fall, love Halloween and horror films.

I watch older stuff more so, classics from the 70s and 80s, anything from truly(attempting to be) terrifying to comedic horror or even family movies.

I was going to make a thread this year, but I think I've done that a few years already and just skipped it.

My kids and I would together watch Spaced Invaders every Halloween. It was campy and the kids loved it. I guess it has become too outdated for today's showing. Oh well...

Some of the best horror movies are the old forgotten campy ones.

I'm going to check that one out.

I'll tell you what's not scary, The haunting of Hill house

I'm a super big chicken and that series was nothing like they made it out to be. The hype they created around it, saying people were throwing up and fainting, what a joke, it was totally just drama! I did like it and liked the ending though.

If you really want to get scared, read the exorcist, now that is some scrarrrry stuff.

I don't consider gore porn to be horror. You also forgot August Underground on that list.

True "scare the crap outta you" horror doesn't exist anymore. At least for me. The only thing I can't watch is animals being abused. That just makes me sick and lose faith in humanity.

Shock horror garbage, not saying it's bad, but it doesn't deserve to be held in any type of high standard . They're no cronenberg or Barker grade classics.

ETA, comment was more geared towards the first 3 listed titles.
