It's a retrograde step but no big surprise , Trump has shown on numerous occasions that he's a Military Industrial Complex kind of guy.

Really thats what Europe needs and wants:

- Stop INF.
- Build more nuclear armed close-distance rockets.
- Russia does too.
- Theater Europe!
- Life is good. Except for Europeans. Poor sods.

I'm wondering if the story has someone's wrong implications tied in.

The SALT treaties were for producing more nukes, testing, and delivery methods.

The ruskies say they're developing a hypersonic delivery system impervious to interception... Many see that as the main antagonist in this situation, but they claim it is in retaliation to the shield we installed in Europe, which was also against treaties.

Is it okay for Russia to develop the most indestructible nukes ever created but we should just shelve ours?

Don't need MORE! What's already in place is enough to destroy most of the known, livable planet 20 times over...at least ruin every part of it for centuries to come.

And that's just the U.S and Russia...let alone the other countries who already have a few to dozens already.

Yes we all have more Nukes then we need. The problem is keeping up with changing technologies, which in turn changes strategies.
I myself have watched as we destroyed many of our best missiles and inside hoped that this was a good idea. It felt somewhat like a police officer trading out his duty 357 revolver for a two shot derringer. But you have to hope! at least for a better world.
However we cannot forget that to broker good deals on the world stage one must present a powerful hand. So it is very possible we are seeing some brinkmanship taking place. . Remember, the public is provided less then a full picture of the problems faced between competing governments; so open support for our own government, whom ever that might be, is more beneficial; while if their is a growing problem, presenting our concerns to elected officials directly. This will not dilute the efficiency of our leaders as they negotiate our positions. I know trust is a big issue, I have had those same concerns. For those who lack trust and can, get involved, run for office and share your voice. We gain more by building up then tearing down.
If we were to take real steps to protect our planet and future on this world; If we really cared. We could move away from the Nuclear bomb and use other technologies for our defensive posture. Such as the device sometimes called Thor's Hammer, A kinetic energy device which can produce the same results without the fallout. If we were sane we would shut down all nuclear reactors in the world and replace them with anything else. Because eventually they will all end up like Fukushima and I have a sneaking fear we have already killed ourselves with that on going disaster.
Three cores (Some have reported) melting deep into the earth and deep into ground water. Nuclear debris more dangerous then a nuclear weapon in concentration and half life. Nightmares and horror stories cannot compare because this monster is real. To me every nuclear reactor in the world as presently configured is just a sleeping disaster waiting it's turn.
And this is my Halloween story, except . . .

I think it's a dick measuring contest with Putin. It's always been that way. And it's stupid. As you said, once you have enough to kill all life on the planet, a few more sure won't help you any, they just waste money, space, and resources. But I don't see any other world leaders stepping up to the microphone to inform Trump or Putin, or anyone else, that everyone already has too many nukes. 1 is too many.

It's like going on a beer run, when you have already drank 12 beers and you have another case in the fridge. pointless. (I had to put that in perspective for Augustus)

Seems like a pretty simple answer. Bad guy can't win. It's better to destroy the world than let x win.

I agree.

I don't think this is about increasing nuclear arsenal but rather advancing the technology to keep up with and hopefully outpace Russia and China.

I want the whole world to eliminate nuclear weapons but we can't just elimate ours with the hopes that Russia and China will follow. The only other option is to outpace them technologically.

I wonder if the Left believes Trump or Putin when it comes to violating the treaty. They went absolutely nuts when Trump mispoke and defended Putin and Russia. Now Trump is calling Putin out for violating a nuclear treaty. I wonder if the same people that were saying impeach Trump the traitor will say we have to believe Putin over Trump?

I don't think that any action by Trump would cause that reaction to you, but that's OK. He could send all nuclear warships to another solar system and you'd still find a way to spread your fearmongering.

While I am (mostly) a Trump supporter, I don't agree with the proliferating of nuclear weapons and I believe this is a step back. But all of his "impulsive" actions so far has lead to a good result so I'll hold my breath for the outcome.

And if it's doom porn so bring it. Just kidding.

Obviously this was coming eventually after all this talk. I think it is disasterous in another couple years. We are pretty much saying "we are going to build enough nukes where if russia or china want war, we can single handedly wipe out this planet with our updated nuke arsenal, cause ten thousand can only destroy a couple continents".

It is pretty much like an intruder breaks into your home & the police arrest the perp. for ya, that wasnt good enough for you though so your break the law treaty & buy a fully auto because if they want to disobey laws you can too. It is beyond stupid but hey, it has to happen so american will start arming up with bigger badder weopons like the president says to. if you can break international treaties of this magnitude, you can break petty laws like fully auto weopons.

I yell ya, anyone that thinks the u.s breaking this pact is ok but not ohk if it happens to the u.s in its own country is not ok. do unto other as you want done to yourself. so u.s breaks laws & makes more nukes, its citizens breaks laws & buys rpgs & full auto. Its only fair & justice for our system. It would hold up in court if there was any justice in it, those days are long gone now.

The courts have been turned into a joke. It is all about protecting the rich to save the economy & jailing the poor to help the rich. Our courts are an absolute disgrace now. There is only hope that one day soon people will realize it is not ohk how we have turned this great country into a disgraceful land of bad people. It can always change for the better still though.

There's no more ET because they killed themselves by nuclear war between their countries. Humans will kill each other off too with nukes between America and Russia. Sad.

It seems to me at least the Trump Train and Trump himself has being swamped in by the TPTB. No doubt they were threatening his loved ones.
