I am quite familar with HTML, but I have a question to which I can not find a documented answer.

The input tag has a "maxlength property". What is maximum value that html can support for that property. I am guessing that it can at least support 32768, but I sure would like some documented confirmation. The DTD I have looked at doesn't specify a maximum value.

A link to credible source would be most appreciated.

depends on the input type. I believe a textbox can only have up to 255 chars, while a text area can have many, many more. Not sure the full number, but I think it's 128 bits of info.
