Amen to that. The random algorithm just loves to screw YT creators sideways.

OK. Request manual review. Wait 2-3 days during the maximum views period. Finally the video is manually approved but most of the views already happened.

There's a bushcraft knife channel I've been watching for 2-3 years. A bushcraft knife channel about knives. The YT algorithms have been set to moral outrage or something because the guys are saying they're slipping down the rankings regardless of views. The lads have never done a video or review that even jokes about violence. They're 100% about reviewing the knives with as much dicking about and jokes as possible.

Yeah it's easy to feel skittish over where this 'moral' filtering is taking us all. I don't have a FB and barely use my Twitter at all. The one big platform I use is YT and I don't agree with how they're filtering content according to their own values. It's a business, sure, they can do what they like and don't owe anyone a living etc.

Doesn't make it ethical and the only people dictating the T&Cs are sitting at the high table and separated from reality. Bunch of #ers imo.

I mean, you and I know what goes into moderating and enforcing the T&Cs of a website. On ATS we have an entire team of moderators that gives input when there is a T&C issue with a post - before a decision is made.
Not at YT. When your video is manually reviewed on YT, then it's a single person that reviews your video, so it's only one person's opinion that decides. I've seen time and again with my own videos - which may or may not be a bit political - how political opinion decided the outcome...

But I digress.

Grambler - don't let me deter you with my frustrations. At first growth will be slow, but once it gains momentum you'll reach the milestones one after the other. Also make use of platforms such Twitter and FB to tell people about your new videos - but NEVER ever spam on any platform. That's the easiest way NOT to get followers.

To me the key to moderating is twofold

Have clear t and c, and be as open as possible with members when it’s being enforced

YouTube seems to have neither of those

That’s what is terrible for larger content providers that can have their livelihood ruined, not because they maliciously violates terms, but because they have no idea what they are

As far a Facebook and Twitter, I actually don’t have them but will be making accounts soon

The big problem I am running in to is do o reveal my real name

I probably will soon, but I am reasonably certain I’m will cost me job opportunities, as I am applying to be a professor at universities and even though I don’t think I say anything that is too controversial, I worry if my political stances will be a reason for schools to reject me

My friend who will be joining me next week for a video is a department chair at a very prestigious university and although he really wants to do a video, he is afraid “right wingers “ that may watch my videos will fox him and his family

It’s a sad state of affairs when people are frightened to have public opinions, even when they entire point of it is to be civil, because they fear what people that see it may do

But despite that, I will not let that stop me, and have decided that I am genuinely a decent person and shouldn’t be ashamed to voice my opinion. If everyone does that, only extremist will be heard

Totally agree with regards to the T&Cs.

Using your real name is definitely a problem if you're going to be voicing your opinion on politics, like you have, and even more so if you're going to have controversial opinions. Not only might your career be influenced but there's definitely nutters out there. I've received countless death threats (and just threats of having my ass kicked) - but luckily I've managed to build my channel and a social presence without having to reveal my real name.
Twitter hasn't really worked for me - but Facebook seems to be a strong source of traffic.
