First I've heard of this.

A group of House Republicans has exchanged articles from right-wing outlets touting Khashoggi's association with the Muslim Brotherhood during his youth as well as his fruitful relationship with Osama bin Laden – both unconfirmed conspiracy theories.

Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner on Thursday said "Khashoggi was tied to the Muslim Brotherhood" during her "Outnumbered" show.

Corey A. Stewart, the Republican running against Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., earlier in the day told a local radio program Khashoggi "was not a good guy himself."

I'm not too familiar with Khashoggi and his history but from what I know, he's been fairly vocal against the establishment government in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia have no admitted that the Washington Post journalist is dead and that he did indeed die within Saudi Consulate grounds. They claim however it was a an altercation because somehow this one man will be more than happy to take on a dozen or so men within the Saudi Consulate. Logic. Now, the President is largely playing it down and like clockwork his allies are coming out protecting him and Saudi Arabia. I doubt we'll get to the bottom of this and I doubt any action will be taken against Saudi Arabia. I have no doubt this would be the same case for past administrations.

The establishment has too much of an invested interest in maintaining ties with the Kingdom. Regardless of whether we're talking about an American citizen here and a journalist.

Sucks but it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't. At the most basic level we either work with Saudi Arabia or give the M.E. to Iran and thus by proxy Russia. Within all those relationships there are competing forces within their own governments---the Muslim Brotherhood vs Moderates for instance.

I wish we'd have learned to mind more of our own business after WW II and kept our solid manufacturing base...but such is the way of men and nations. Good thing Prez Trump is working on our manufacturing base. About time someone did. Obama must've been at meeting with Farrakan or Ayres and forgot to do it or somethin'.

Don Jr floated this formula days after the news of Khashoggi's disappearance, and rumors of his murder.

They're so predictable and transparent.

The GOP was also accused of spreading misinformation on Benghazi
to damage Hillary Clinton. Both accusations are without merit.

here's the bottom line. I want Saudi oil. I want it cheap. I don't care that some mouthy a-hole got dismembered because he was too stupid to realize, "hey you know what; all this crap I'm saying if they catch me, will probably kill me."

Well it did. end of story. Seriously what are the options? Lets go bomb yet another damn litter box and move turds around? Why; what will it accomplish. Let the saudi's do the saudi thing and be a-holes to their own people; and let americans do their thing and drive with our cheap gas and cry about the other political side.

To me; this is a none issue. They are guilty of one thing. Getting caught. you think every other government in the world doesn't pull this # too?

How is this to protect Trump? Protect him from what? People are upset with his "soft" way of handling it... what the hell else is he supposed to do? Drone strike em?

He said he will listen to the advice of Congress if any sanctions are to be made and that we are still waiting to figure the whole thing out.... seems logical to me.

Liberals don't care about liberals being murdered. (Just fake empathy before elections.)

See what Trump says about this critically (non) important issue at the Arizona Rally tonight. He's arriving about 9:45pm Eastern time.

Yes and more yeses ! From everything I have read he was a big supporter/member of the Muslim Brotherhood... Probably why he was the darling of some of the USA politicians.

The liberals wanted Trump to throw Saudi under the bus before an investigation and any facts were presented because they are a group who thrives on innuendo, lies, and not facts.

Saudi had come out and said (lies) that he died during a fight at the Embassy...must have been one hell of a fight to end up dismembered and taking an acid bath, no ?

Also there are supposedly 18 Saudi nationals arrested for their participation in his death.. Probably safer than walking to the market for them ? It would be hard for all 18 to die unless there is a fire or a bomb at the prison..

The best speech writers and CYA specialist are no doubt trying to come up with some great sounding excuse that the masses will buy and let the Saudi government off the hook.. While the 18 already arrested will probably be called a rogue element and disposed of ... youtu.be...

When last did you go to Chicago to address that situation? Or is this just a talking point you got from the rightwing echochamber and you actually don't give a damn.

So... What's your call on this?

Was he a good guy?

I have ABSOLUTELY no love for Saudi neanderthals, believe me. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a damn neanderthal? If they didn't have all that oil money, they would be digging in the sand or sucking on cactus innards just to have water to drink. (Those comments are for the Saudis, not you, friend)

Hell, some even say mossad had a hand in it (which is NOT out of the realm of possibility, IMO), but at least for the moment, I lean toward the Saudis cutting the guy up.

But I can't say for sure, because I don't know. So I'll reserve judgment. At least for now.

I'll bet POTUS has more intel than I do, so if he chooses to play it cool, there's probably a good reason for it.

Would you really expect his political allies to rock that boat?

I'm aware of your contempt for POTUS, some of which I agree with, but he's done NOTHING but kick ass and take names for two years, so you'll please excuse me if I give him the benefit of a doubt, at least for the time being.

This country is moving in the proper direction for the first time in 30 years. Fortunately, the fact that you don't agree with that sentiment doesn't make it any less true, so I'm fine with you and I "agreeing to disagree" on occasion. But it's NEVER personal, and it doesn't mean we can't discuss issues, wouldn't you agree?

Could my view change? Absolutely. In a heartbeat.
Is it likely? Not if he continues to roll in the direction he's been rolling so far...

Oh, and just so there's no confusion, I for one would NOT continue to support him if he shot someone down in the street.

Unless he had a really good reason.

It would also be a deal-breaker if he were to start drowning puppies, kittens, or miscellaneous livestock.

That would be bad...

The only people upset by the way that trump is handling it are the neocons and the far left liberals, who to be quite honest would have been unhappy no matter what he did. Screw them all. I want my cheap gas, I want more money in my pocket. Saudi's killing Saudi's is NOT my concern. Even if the dude had a green card, it doesn't matter. WHY WOULD HE NEED A SAUDI PASSPORT IF HE ACTUALLY FELT HE HAD ALLEGIANCE TO AMERICA? The dude, his family, the house of Saudi can all piss off as far as i'm concerned; as long as they keep the oil flowing, they can keep killing each other for the next 50 years.

That's actually a really good point, even if it is a bit off-topic.

I was in Chicago a good bit during the 80s, and I thought it was the coolest "Big city" I ever saw. Not to mention the fact that it was St. Paddy's Day, so the water was green. How cool is that?

Sad state of affairs, that one is.

From The Magnitski Act and having to impose sanctions.

First, he isn't an American citizen not sure where you got that from. He was a Saudi citizen and that's why he went to the Saudi embassy in the first place. Next, he hasn't always been vocal against the Saudi government he has sided with them as well. It has been known for decades that Saudis kill people who disagree with the monarchy. This isnt new it just normally not so blatant they made little attempt to cover it up.

Now, of course, the United States has a vested interest in maintaining ties with Saudi Arabia you can't be that naive can you? For one without Saudi support there is no way for the US to stop Iran and Hezbollah. Then there is the economic problem placing severe sanctions will hurt many of our partners especially in Europe. It also means if sanctions go to far it will cause a world wide shortage of oil now the US could weather this with a slight increase in prices since we are the number one producer in the world. The problem becomes other countries who were buying US oil would need to find alternatives and with sanctions cant be Saudis. So now we have countries getting desperate to attain oil reserves which will sky rocket the price.

Then because of higher gas prices Irans profits could easily double making it easier to fund terrorism against others like Israel. And of course Israel isn't just going to sit there and be attacked so they will fight back, And now we have the entire middle east up in flames over the death of a Saudi citizen. Try as you might if we took this standard with all countries we couldn't even deal with Mexico as political assassinations happen there as well. They can't get off scot-free but you can't go overboard on a response either. The trick will be making the crown prince hurt enough to prevent this in the future but not enough to make him want to burn down the middle east.

Now you say people are providing cover i think they are just trying to tone down the emotions. Many knew him he had friends in Washington so there is some very vocal people calling for extreme actions.

Aw, come on man, you know he has a point, topical or not. Why would you say that? You really think we don't give a damn? Really?

You don't think remarks like that look like they are from a "Left-wing echo chamber"?

Or can you read minds? If not, I think it's a bit of a reach, yes?
