Well, looks like BAEs Type 26 Global Combat Ship frigate is doing pretty well. Ordered for the British Royal Navy, selected by the Australians and
now the choice for the future Canadian frigate. Three customers and it’s not even in the water.
> For British Royal Navy Wiki Type 26
> For the Royal Australian Navy beating Spain’s Navantia F-10n and Italy’s Fincantieri FREMM
> For the Royal Canadian Navy beating the Dutch De Zeven Provinciën and (once again) Spain’s Navantia F-105
A group of companies led by multinational defence giant Lockheed Martin has been selected as the preferred designer for Canada's next generation
of warships, the Liberal government said Friday.
The announcement that the group's BAE Type 26 design won the design competition represents a significant step forward for the long-anticipated
$60-billion program to replace the navy's aging fleet of frigates.
Nice one Canada.
While I doubt it would disrupt the US FFG competition (another Wiki link
), the recent choice of Type
26 has probably puts the nail in the coffin for the designs (FREMM, F100) which have failed to get traction with the Australians and Canadians.
