How Can I Find Info About Craft That Just Passed Overhead

I never thought I'd post in this forum. Hi everyone.

I was outside roughly ten minutes ago when eight helicopters passed overhead. I don't see well even with my glasses; that combined with the distance and glare prevented me from getting much detail as to the size or color of the craft.

The were in single file and equidistant to each other (impressive to behold, honestly) except for the last one, which was following more closely. They were flying south. I'm not concerned about anything, but I can't recall seeing anything similar so naturally curious.

I've never been interested in doing this sort of thing. How can I find information about those eight helicopters?

ETA: Search gives me lots of results about how to point an iPhone skywards and getting information with Siri. Since I don't use a smartphone I can't do that.

Adsb exchange would be your best bet you can filter it so it shows just military craft etc

I'm checking that out. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

I just asked a family member who saw the helicopters too, and said they looked like Sikorsky helicopters. He worked for Rockwell-Collins and knows a good deal more than me about this stuff.

I'd check to see what military bases are near you.

Civilian don't do that.

From the North what direction were they flying?

They're likely UH-60s out of Salem, but they could be out of Washington heading to one of the major training areas in California, possibly for predeployment training.

No. I have poor vision and they were high enough that I couldn't make out size or color.

This was roughly 11:30a about 25 miles west of Portland OR.

It was a veritable caravan and really something to see, IMO. I feel that anyone would be curious about such a thing passing through the sky.

Figured it was military right away.

My father, who worked for Rockwell-Collins on their "head-up" displays, was out on a walk and saw them too and guessed Sikorksy's. My level of discernment is "helicopters".

I certainly understand the curiosity. After all the years I've spent on the ramp I still drive down the road occasionally with my head almost out the window looking up at something going overhead.

There are CH-47s and UH-60s based in the Portland region. The difference between the two would be really obvious though.
