A Ukrainian SU27 has crashed killing both pilots the only news story I've seen is a bit conflicted. First it states a US pilot was on board but later changes in the article to 2 Ukrainian pilots.

Read about this earlier.

"This is a sad day for the US & Ukraine. Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends & fellow Airmen of both the US Airman & Ukrainian aviator who were killed in the incident."-MajGen Clay Garrison, Calif ANG commander/Clear Sky exercise director

Yeah the news article I linked seems a bit confused but it is the Mirror tbh.

Yeah way I’ve heard an American was on board as well, I hope this has no connection to possible retaliation for the bombing at the Crimean university, perhaps my tinfoil hat is on too tight again.

The way the article reads this was just a joint exercise with other nations so I don't think it's related tbh with you

I was mostly kidding but it’d be a very bad thing if they were connected.

It was a single aircraft familiarization flight. Witnesses said the pilot was able to divert the aircraft away from a civilian neighborhood as it was losing altitude.

The US pilot was Lt. Col. Seth “Jethro” Nehring. He had been with the California ANG for 20 years, starting as an enlisted crew chief before flying both F-15s and F-16s. He was serving as the Operations Officer in the Joint Operations Center during Clear Sky.

The American pilot was training the Ukrainian pilot. It was a Su-27UB two seat trainer. Both pilots killed. RIP. Russia engine embargo on Ukraine. The Su-27UB was not airworthy.
