We are spending way too much money.

Despite taking in record revenues and a booming economy, the deficit is increasing.
Now to be fair, disaster relief spending is way up because of hurricanes and massive fires.

"Federal revenue rose only slightly, by $14 billion after Republicans chopped tax rates for corporations and most individuals. Outlays climbed by $127 billion, or 3.2 percent. A spike in defense spending, as well as increases for Medicaid, Social Security and disaster relief, contributed to the increase."

Before everybody hammers trump along on this one let's not forget that Obama doubled our national debt.

As a country it's time to start squeezing nickles until the buffalo farts.
It's going to happen one way or another so let's get it done now.

Personally I would like to hammer our congress for being weasels. If the Republicans pull off a win again this November I want to hear zero excuses as to why we can't cut out many many programs that do practically nothing to help this nation other than put a million dollar stick to prop up an ancient and tottering program that some buddy of theirs run. If something is going to fail, let it fail. Government should never be trying to pick winners in any industry.

Blame we the people.

Not only do we keep electing the same idiots, if they make changes for the financial better of the country it will sting and we will vote them out of office.

We the people are our own worst enemies

The deficit will continue to keep growing, that’s how a debt based economy works.

And was Obama not "hammered" incessantly for the national debt increase during his presidency?

FEMA report to congress from last month has disaster relief spending at about $27 billion over base.

How much of the 2012 deficit was due to ARRA?

It's really pretty simple. We already had a deficit. The Republicans passed tax cuts betting on the supply-side economics proposition that lowering taxes would broaden the tax base leading to a massive increase in tax revenue. At the same time, Congress made significant spending increases, such as "defense" spending. If the federal government spends more money without taking in more in revenue, the deficit grows.

The next move will be to go after funding for anything that's not popular with Republicans.

Revenue did go up.

And yes, Obama was and should have been hammered for overspending.

The entire point is that our government "both sides" need their butts kicked.
Everything needs cut.
Wars need to end.

But hey, blame trump like you always do.

It's so blatantly clearly a spending problem.

US economy is on FIRE. Govt revenue is at all time high.

Still can't overcome the ridiculous govt spending.

Sad Sad Sad

No time to work on spending, there is too much DNA research on politicians that needs to be done first.

Since the 70s we have run a deficit every year except four I think.
Clinton years actually.
Lots of military cuts that hurt us years later.

But yes, it's a spending problem.

The Government needs to do what "We the People" do and go without if we don't have the money. The problem is they just spend, spend, spend and make it the next guys problem. They feel like they have a blank check and are putting each and every American further into debt.

Republicans overspend on the military and Democrats overspend on everything else. We need more fiscally responsible people in Washington to represent us and our best interests.

Yea and revenue does normally go up barring economic downturns.

To gauge the efficacy of the tax cuts, you need to determine how much revenue increased compared to how much it would have gone up otherwise. In other words, even with revenue increasing, it's still entirely possible that the tax cuts led to less revenue than would have otherwise been seen, meaning the tax cuts had a net negative effect on revenue.

And yes, Obama was and should have been hammered for overspending.

Sure. But just like how you think it bears mention that disaster relief spending is up $27 billion this year, Obama came into office in the worst economic downturn since the GD (which both tanked revenue and resulted in stimulus spending) and two wars which alone added well over $100 billion to the deficit in each of his first two years in office.

The entire point is that our government "both sides" need their butts kicked.

Wars need to end.

I don't know that I'd say that *everything* needs to be cut but there's certainly areas where we could spend less.

But hey, blame trump like you always do.

I'm always leery of giving too much credit or too much blame for the economy to presidents because there are a whole lot of factors beyond their control.

But come on. The tax cuts are the GOP's signature "accomplishment" and they sure do seem fine with making all sorts of claims about the wonders they're working economically and so I think that if they're not the success they've been touting, they have to own that result. Don't you?
