Round windows are ornate.

Square are boring and prescribed.

Round windows frame the outside world in a more comforting soft manner.

Square windows are not inspiring.

Put in a square window and cover it with a round frame, boom! You’re welcome.

Figuring out a way to open it would mean either less of an opening or all the window weight on one hinge.

Its not impossible or affordable, just a specialty item that costs more due tot he construction costs.

You could just have a round hole and throw some glass in it but watch out for the house settling, you could crack the window without a proper frame for it(bent wood or otherwise). Also consider building regulations depending on where one lives. Materials and energy ratings matter to Insurance agencies as well.

Here is a simple round:
Round 24" window for $300

And the same size in rectangle
24" rectangle that opens for $80

Its all about cost

It takes a bit more craftsmanship to build a brick wall to accommodate a round window. Though these days, they would just use an electric saw to cut a circle in the wall, then line the gap with bricks and fit in the window frame.

www.roundwindowcompany.co.uk...

Window frames can just be hinged in the middle so that they flip open vertically or horizontally. I remember seeing some window frames that could actually be rotated...

My college had round windows for their ground floor single seat bathrooms. Someone tried to steal a PC. Got the screen, mouse, keyboard through the window. But got flummoxed with the large rectangular PC case and the half circle gap. So IT/Security set up an old CCTV camera in the ceiling of the bathroom and ran some coaxial cable to a monitor in the room of a professor who was on holiday. It was quite an event when he returned from his holidays and invited students into his
office.
