80% of the US lives in an urban area as of the 2010 census.
U.S. Census Bureau
More information can be found on the census.gov website.

Therefore, those states that have more populationsreceive more electoral votes. It's all proportional making it fair overall.

Trump won because the majority of people in the majority of counties in the majority of states voted for him.

So in reality, the majority did vote for Trump.

And you would replace it with only campaigning for major cities at the expense of small town USA. And most campaigning would be done in swing states anyways as that is where there are the most people who can be swayed.

Only a few times in history has the EC gone against the popular vote.

So many feelings got hurt in 2016 many are trying to make an issue of dissolution of the EC.

Getting 2/3 of both Houses and 38 States to remove the EC is improbable if not impossible.

"I didn't win, the rules are not fair" reminds me of kids playing a board game in kindergarden class.

At least we can count on the SCOTUS to declare this garbage unConstitutional.....

National Popular Vote Interstate Compact

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among a group of U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their respective electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The compact is designed to ensure that the candidate who wins the most popular votes is elected president, and it would come into effect only when it would guarantee that outcome. As of September 2018, it has been adopted by eleven states and the District of Columbia. Together, they have 172 electoral votes, which is 32.0% of the total Electoral College and 63.7% of the electoral votes needed to give the compact legal force.

And that fact makes folks like me who are stuck in smack dab in the middle of a big blue area of a state feel like we had any voice at all when it came to the last presidential election.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a Constitutional illiterate. The Electoral College is hard-coded into our Constitution (Article 2, Section 1, and in the 12th Amendment). Neither executive edict nor legislation can eliminate it.

Only a plurality of states through a convention can eliminate it. Given that this state plurality is controlled by the GOP, elimination won't happen. This is all moot...smoke and mirrors by the Borg left.

The Electoral College is 100% integral to our form of government; it represents the absolute epitome of state's rights. Eliminating it would require all states to abandon their constitutions, legislative branches, and sovereignty ceding all power to the federal government. Anyone who thinks this will actually happen is an abject moron.

You should really use proper quoting and sourcing when copy and pasting others work.

The op is reposting that a person has called for abolishing the electoral college, as that person feels it is in the shadow of Slaver’s power.

There are a few things that could be stated and should be:

The original intention of the college, is that the person who wanted to be president would have to create a coalition of voters who would support the candidate, in order to be elected to be president. It was designed that no one state or area would dominate or out voice another area. And there are a few problems in this age with that system. The first problem is the entire winner take all in most states. That in itself disenfranchises groups of people, who are often the minority, where their voices are drowned out by the majority.

The next is the population size. Take the State of Montana and the state of California: The population of Montana is 1.05 million. The population of California is: 39.54 million. So if they go by popular vote, in short the city of Los Angeles would be able to cancel out the votes of Montana, thus shutting them out. That is not right, and it would cause more problems.

If we look back at the 2016 election, and one removes the winner take all system, and base it on the proportion of the vote that was case, the reality is that neither candidate would have won the election. And it would have gone to the next level and gone through to the House to determine who would be the next president of the United States of America. It also means that neither candidate or party could afford to ignore parts or even sections of the country, and would have to focus on both the rural and the cities.

The other part, and many are not going to like this, but the truth is that there are still policies that are still around, that are a direct result of the aftermath of the civil war and Jim crow laws. They still exist. The redline parts of a neighborhood, for example, is prime, and those come from the days of Jim Crow laws. And there needs to be a serious look at the various business policies and laws, to move forward.

The funny thing about politics, is that politicians tend to be like leaves in the wind, they go which ever way the wind is blowing.

Sides we are seeing it from the people in congress, say one thing one day, do the exact opposite the next, and it is both parties.

No one from the GOP is crying to change the rules.

Instead of changing their platform the dems want to change rules because they lost.

It is pathetic.

Except they wouldnt really be swing states with out a electoral college. GOP could campaign in San Francisco or LA regions because surprisingly their are large pockets of purple and red in those areas that you dont see on an electoral map. Democrats could go to Texas and do the same.
