NEWS: Pope Readmitted to Hospital, Undergoes Tracheotomy Surgery

Pope John Paul II has once again been rushed to Gemelli hospital due to a relapse of the flu with related respritory problems. Doctors have performed surgery to insert a tracheotomy tube to help him breathe. The operation reportedly lasted 30 minutes and was successful. The Vatican is calling the pontiff's condition "regular;" they did not elaborate.



Only three weeks after his first admission to hospital the Pope has suffered a relapse which caused two "respiratory crises" late last night. Doctors at the Vatican made the decision to rush the aging pontiff to hospital this morning.

1 Feb: Rushed to hospital suffering from "breathing difficulties brought on by flu"
4 Feb: Health improving and he is eating normally, Vatican says
6 Feb: Appears at window of hospital room and reads the final lines of the Angelus blessing in hoarse voice
9 Feb: Misses Ash Wednesday services at the Vatican for first time in 26 years
10 Feb: Returns to Vatican in motorcade, waving to crowds
13 Feb: Appears at Vatican for Sunday blessing for first time since leaving hospital
22 Feb: Launches new book in which he compares abortion with the Holocaust
24 Feb: Returns to Gemelli hospital after suffering a relapse of his flu condition

Judging by his appearances in the past few days he seems to have great difficulty breathing.

We have to admit, the Pope lived through some pretty turbulent times. It's his time to pack his backs and hop on that long bus home where he belongs. The Catholic faith can no longer defend a stale and stagnent world view anymore. Time to move on.

Tracheotomy doesn't take too long however it could take longer due to his age and condition.

Fox News is saying that the Pope has NOT been into the operating room, as told to them by a Polish Official....

we need some sort of official word from the Vatican.

seriously now that the operation has been successfully done, I hope that the Vatican will keep the Pope under strict bed rest and not allow him to perform his various duties until he has fully recuperated. I think they rushed him last week and didn't give him enough time to recover from his last hospital visit.

Worldwatcher .... I agree with you. He was rushed. He should
not have been out and about. Wonder if he rushed himself around
knowing his time was coming to an end ... or if his handlers rushed
him about hoping to knock him off .... something we may never know.

The Vatican are reporting that the Pope's operation to ease his breathing difficulties has ended and been sucessful.

Beliefs are life prisons. It keeps the mind locked up in different divisons. Throw them away and live life.

First, I admit to being a Catholic (although one who has been known to lapse). Nevertheless, I have faith and love for the Church and for Pope John Paul. I really believe that he feels that it is his destiny to remain Pope until the end of his life. Perhaps, he can show us how to die as well as how to live. I'm praying for him to find peace.

I truly hope the Lord allows his servant to stay with us a little longer, he has been a great force for good in ths world and will contnue to be for as long as he lives. As an aside will he need a vocalser now tht he has had a traceotomy?

I have to say that although i respect the rights of those people who do believe in religeon and so on, i do wish that the people on this planet realise that religeon is the single biggest cause of more and bloodier wars than anything else in history. its about time we gave up such things and relied on common sence and thought. Not some old grossly mis interpreted parchments that basically say 'read this and it will make you better than all those who dont'
