You are right that they got more votes, but our Presidential election has never been decided by the popular vote. I suppose I see what you're saying about the literal majority (of voters - in total, all votes combined barely represent half of this country...on a good day voter turnout is dismal at best)

But allowing population directly to control the federal government would remove any incentive smaller states have to remain part of the country. We would end up with some mess resembling South African apartheid or Georgia/Afghanistan/Rhodesia/British Honduras

And how did that popular vote translate to Democratic wins... anywhere?

Meanwhile, the generic polling data that had Democrats 20 points ahead a few months ago now is showing a 2 point lead... within the statistical margin of error.

So whatever the Dems are doing they need to keep doing it.

Possibly, sure. I guess we'll see in the next elections though. We can't answer conclusively on theoretical conjecture and polls as you well know.

The Union isn't in any danger of becoming socialist. Everyone I know from libs to the GOP are all looking to improve their situation economically, one way or another. Not even Republicans except for the loony far right think socialism is a danger.

It's not hard to spot BS pandering to the ignorant rightwing with Nov. coming up soon.

I love the American political system being as how it's the GOP signing my pay checks. They pay obscene jack for political TV spots. I thank God every day for showing me how to work in the Media production angle. Capitalism..doin business the American way.

btw...most of the GOP candidates that we put together their promo package....they sound like democrats!!!

All true points, but on the flip side there are also negative issues to be considered when a small group of voters decides the conditions and actions to befall the majority as well. There isn't a good clear perfect solution to this of course which is why we have what we have now. Perhaps it could be improved upon.

communism is total government control with a socialist economy
socialism is government running all businesses and industry

democrats like socialism but found out that actually running the businesses is too much work, so they control them indirectly by taxation and regulations.

democrats want the government to control everything, directly or indirectly.
and democrats want to control the government.

global warming? more government needed to stop it.
poverty? more government programs needed. (50 years of war on poverty and we're losing, but the democrats still think more government programs are the answer)
health care? more government interference, I mean involvement, needed.

Take the production classes offered by your public access Cable channel and join us. Alex Jones in Austin, built an empire from starting just like I described. Now in the digital age, media platforms are crying for content. Everything from kiddie shows to fake reality garbage.

Yet an example of these excuses are evident. Yet another attack because Trump dared "allow" people to keep more of THEIR OWN money as opposed to being taxed, taxed, taxed to death.

GOP pouring money, lots from tax cuts, into election now, that's why blue wave is weakening

Heard on radio today. The October money is pouring in. Voters seeing ads that are outright lies... anything it takes. That's why Dems that were ahead were falling behind. Money is coming from Koch brothers, super pacs and now corporations are contributing money from the tax cuts.

lots of money is being poured into the Kavanaugh issue, getting repubs riled up.

Unbelievable. I saw a comment the other day where some hysterical leftist was looking to get ahold of their congressional rep for DARING to vote Yes on a new 3.2 Trillion Dollar tax cut in the House.

Does anyone notice what I am right now?

Tis no fault of you just a very odd coincidence. Now before you respond look at numbers and things said and used in this(your) specific response.

And don't think for one second that Senate Democrats actually want you to see Kavanaugh's background investigation report. They know full well they could read it aloud on the Senate Floor in front of national TV and would be immune from prosecution. So if they wanted to leak it they would do what they've done several times already: they'd just leak it anyway, consequences be damned

I must be really out of the loop if there's a legitimate reason to be worried that the US is going to become Communist or Socialist.
Is there actually anyone (outside of fringe groups) actively advocating for Communism in the US? I don't mean people's interpretation of what liberals say, but actual, for real Communism? Enough people to the point of needing to be worried about it? That strikes me as an exaggeration. There's no way the US is ever going to become Communist.
As for Socialism, what people are truly advocating for isn't pure Socialism. It's Democratic Socialism, which is actually quite different than the pure version. Anyone who thinks it's the same thing should really research the differences between the 2.
However, the country isn't going to become "Socialist" either. We're stuck with the 2 party system for the foreseeable future.

Now, I think the main reason this is becoming a bigger and bigger topic is that, well, something is wrong with the US government and their policies. We were the best decades ago. But, we then sat on our laurels, and several countries snuck past us. Many countries are "better" than us at most of the main points of ranking now. That (rightly) concerns people. We should be trying to get better as a country, and people are just trying to come up with other ways to do that, since our current way of doing things isn't getting the job done.

What's wrong with trying to better ourselves?

Hey more power to you

Not that you need it, but I fully support your 1st amendment right to speak out about the government (or whatever you choose)

I believe that is exactly how Alex Jones show started. Yea I know it has some pretty far out there stuff, but he also highlights a lot of important Constitutional issues and every now and then he'll cover a story with an sensible angle that ends up opening up different questions that wouldn't get asked otherwise. I suppose it is defining "critical thinking" and I think we need a heck of a lot more of that not less

The nature of Kavanaugh's treatment resembles the show trials of the socialist and communist regimes throughout history. That's worrying.
