A friend of mine has made an app that offers locations of commerical department of transportation police and weigh stations.

Its been up an running for about a year.

Then one of his tech buddies showed him something very interesting.

He created a user agreement program that if people accept, the program can let us view a persons contacts, pictures on phone, listen through their mic and watch through their camera.

And it seems most people accept this, which requires a person to reveal these things if they want to use that app.

It is endless entertainment

how is this legal ?

Android app developers do this quite often. It is stunning how many people blindly install apps without any thought of permissions and how they might be used.

It is wise to give them a look, as well as privacy policies.

You've just explained pretty much every single app that works with facebook... if you have a "smart phone" and use any social media sites you sign away any "reasonable expectation of privacy"...

In my experience, it's the fun stuff that tends to be illegal.

OP I'm not even surprised by this, it seems par the course these days, hackers don't really need to hack cameras and mics anymore - as LightSpeedDriver said, consent is freely given.

I wonder if people actually read user agreements and understand them sometimes.

Smartphones are nothing more than glorified, souped-up police tags, IMO.
