This same sort of stupid # has been going on for many years with race - where I live if you can write in 'african american' on a job application you're guaranteed to get hired for pretty much any office job - huge corporations have rules about what percentage of your local staff must be certain races, and around these parts we just don't have certain races. HR doesn't care, the person with the race needed to make quota gets hired over the person with the correct qualifications every time.

Cali is just extending that nonsense to gender. Soon each board will need someone who identifies as a carrot, too.

Well if you think you have any minority DNA in ya and your crazy enough to take one of those DNA tests do it!! Some guy got his back and he had 4% African DNA so he applied for a minority business owner and a lower court approved his claim! It is now going to the 9th circus court and we all know they won't disallow the claim or will they?

semicolons? That would make you a programmer.

I suppose some people take the internet a bit too seriously. A lot of stuff out here isn't even reality.

I know, One guy on ATS, I won't mention any names is calling for a "purge" of democrats. He probably would be able to recruit plenty of members with the current attitudes..... Reminds me of this.

It's funny how humans work in groups. The more validation someone gets from the group (groupthink) the more they believe they are right no matter how wrong they actually are. ATS had turned into groupthink central with two camps. I seem to be one of the very few who is not part of those two groups.

Someone could come on here and proclaim the sky is green and if they got tons of (anonymous) stars and flags they'd hold that belief that much stronger. Groupthink in full force around here.

Progressivism is where the government regulates the companies to the point that they might as well own them.

That's called fascism. The same people running around calling Trump and his supporters fascists are literally fascists themselves.

I can only speak for myself

I don’t hate you or anyone else here

I passionately disagree with people, have made fun of people, and otjer things

But I don’t hate anyone here

Poking fun at a poster isn’t the same as hating them

But sometimes I guess it could be misinterpreted as that

No, I'm talking about the veiled physical threats and some not so veiled sent to my in box.
My favorite was some guy telling me he would stick my keyboard up my a$$ so far, I would sh** semi colons.

topic....
I resent being told to meet any kind of minorities or sexual quota. I'm perfectly capable of wreaking my businesses and running it into the ground, all by myself, thank you very much!

Ain't you the guy who said if anyone talks about my woman I will knock their teeth out?

Lol, fail.

I was just pointing out the irnony of you going in to every post based in a news story and saying the people that are discussing it are being divided like the media wants

I andbothers told you that you selectively apply that, as you like to way in on topics as well

And here we have another example

You seem to get a strange sense of satisfaction knowing most people don’t agree with your usual post

Hey I am glad you feel great about that!

If you are happy, I’m happy for you!

Yes, that was me and I meant every word of it. It wasn't "talk" it was "insult" try and keep up.

Most real men would defend their lady's honor. Sorry if that offends you!! We're not all girly men.

This IS another piece of the puzzle that is dividing us socially. Every day there's a new story about something Trump did or something a Democrat did that will get certain people's mouths foaming. That's no accident, they're manipulating us so that we react emotionally instead of logically. We're at each other's throats because we're can't touch those in the news stories. What better way to vent our frustrations about these stories other than toward each other? That's how they want it to stay, they know we can't do anything about it so they keep giving us ammo to fight each other.

Why shouldn't I? It just shows to me that I'm on the right track with my thoughts and ideas. If you're part of one of the camps the media and government are pitting against each other continuously then you're doing something wrong.

"Choose a side!" That's what the media is saying with their choice of coverage and stories. You guys are more than happy to oblige it seems.

The first state, and hopefully the last state to mandate institutional sexism.

You guys are getting awfully personal and way off topic. The issue is women on company boards. How do you think this will play out? If the companies had any gumption, they'd change their registration to another state. Practically speaking, that's very difficult because companies are very entrenched in their locations. But it's not impossible. A few years back Boeing moved its headquarters from Seattle to Chicago, for example. The idea of having women on boards is not the real issue here; it's being forced by government to do so. But a publicly traded company would likely come under fire from stockholders if they moved for that reason alone. Boeing's excuse to leave Seattle was that they wanted to be more easily accessible to their market, and flying to Europe from Chicago is a whole lot easier than flying from Seattle (they said: It's two time zones and Europe is still 5-6 time zones from Chicago.) The real reason Boeing left is because of Washington State's and Seattle's business climate, which is similar to California's. So, it's a complex issue and it will depend on corporations' responses on how this plays out.

What’s crazy is that the people of California actually think they are moving society forward...

This is crazy

And capitalism is where businesses and corporations own the government and pay politicians to make them as much profit as possible. Seeing as we're using caricatures here I thought I'd give it a go too.

As for the OP, I think this is stupid. Why should a company be forced to hire a woman over a man if the man is better qualified? Really dumb idea.

Speaking of caricatures, nice to reply to you again.

I did not caricaturize socialism or progressivism... I merely told you their economic definitions.

Businesses and corporations "owning" the government isn't capitalism. That is called corruption.

Which is possible in all socioeconomic structures, predominantly overtly tyrannical ones like socialism and progressivism.

Capitalism by itself is the idea of free trade without governmental regulation and obstruction.

I understand that you can't understand the difference... for you capitalism is bad and totalitarian forms of government good.

We can agree to disagree...

Outcomes I can foresee:

1). Every public company will now have 3, and only 3, women on it's board.

2). There will be a couple of doomed lawsuits fighting this, because board members have to be "elected" by the shareholders. I predict that some corporations will run separate, massive elections for the "3 women's seats". (phrasing!)

3). The seats will be for 1 year, then you're fired, ma'am. To do this, companies will rig their elections beforehand, so everyone knows how to vote. And they will elect women who promise to vote "present" for their entire year.

4) This is the first law dictating how companies run themselves in the state. It won't be the last.

5) Many companies will move out of California, rather than risk breaking the laws by accident. So California will mandate it for every company that does business in California. So there will be vendors who will "represent you" in Cali.

6). California will raise tax on businesses to fix the budget shortfall of their slowing economy....

I hope companies take them to court on this. The sanctuary laws were already ruled unconstitutional I may be wrong, but this new law should be as well.

Lawmakers in Cali are pretty crazy right up there with some of the deep red states. Many times lawmakers have passed laws that have been shot down. It has happened before and it will happen again.

All this tells me is that California politicians don't think women have the skill and tenacity necessary to make it on their own merits, so it must be made into law.

Maybe but Norway has that law. 40% of board members must be women.

Cali's love Norway.

"if they can do it, we can too!!"

They don't even have chairs!

So which state comes forward with incentives for companies displaced by this law in CA? I know if I were the governing body of a state with not a lot of economic pull, I would be chomping at the bit to provide tax breaks and everything else I could in order to provide them with a legitimate reason to move operations. I know several C level and board level women who would be mad as hell about being the diversity hire mandated by law, they rightfully earned their spots with hard work.

It's insulting.

such BS

put people in positions they deserve on merit and experience.. not whats between their legs

If there are 2 positions available and 50 applicants..

if the best 5 are men, then put 2 of them in the position

Don't put a woman just because 'equality in sexes'
