Familiar with most of these except most of the monkeys and apes. I have just never been all that into primates. I know most people think they're cute and funny, but I've just never seen it.

Of course, the ones like the gorilla, chimp, and the proboscis monkey I knew. I've seen the tamarin picture before. And everyone has seen lemurs. So I did know about those even if I couldn't nail down specific species.

Saiga are vulnerable mainly because they have a funny way of pulling off mysterious mass deaths for no easily discernible reason.

To me, the Hyacinth McCaw is an easy favorite. I think I am going to find a framed photograph of that one for the den.

I am horrified by the devastation mankind is inflicting on the natural world. It's a sad sign of the times and an terrible legacy we are leaving for the future generations.

While people concentrate on the bigger animals, usually mammals, we must remember the smaller.

In the UK there are some critically endangered animals, such as:

- the beautiful Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly
- the odd myth-laden Wart-biter Cricket
- the specialist Cosnard’s Net-winged Beetle
- the V Moth

Not to mention the once common hedgehog and the turtle dove. Perversely, the water vole had been driven to the brink by American mink that were originally released by animal rights protesters! Nice move, guys.

That photography is off the chain good. Almost better than real life!
I hope they can be saved from extinction.

I like the Panda because he looks like he is running for office.

I like the panda too, but I like the other one better -- the one from behind.

Looks like he's sitting like a boss and looking at the mountains and then you see the corner of the room and realize he's staring at a painted wall -- and still chilling like a boss.

And yet, in just a few weeks research, scientists have discovered dozens of new species of spider in........Australia of course.

Brand new ones, they never knew about before....

There is still life out there, on planet Earth, that we dont even know about.....spiders, worms, bigfoot....etc.

Why are they on the brink?? Get the BBQ fired up and let's get this over with. There is Also plenty of fine furs to sell. I get fed, dogs walk the shopping district in stylish furs with their owner. YouTube vines get to entertain the world with silly compilation videos, Win win for everyone!

Everytime I hear about endangered species I just want them to go extinct so I can stop hearing people whine about them. They are not competitive enough, just leave them be. Plus it would save resources.

Let me know when a family of animals is getting endangered then I may care. There are still too many types of owls turtles, monkeys and rodents for us to really be directing resources for these things.

I think what humans don't understand is that we are a very resourceful species who can adapt to many different habitats and many places on Earth. Some common animals are even more prolific, take rodents for example.

However, many of these threatened animals live under very specific conditions; their climates and habitats. Even moreover, many species rely on learned behaviors passed along through generations. I think migrating animals are a good example of this.

Just to draw a distinction between the two types of evolutionary paths; the flexible animals and the specialized ones.

Hawaii is a special place.

More extinctions during the Holocene than any other place on the planet.

The original colonists found these big, tasty birds that couldn't fly. They ate them all.

They got smarter, eventually.

But Hawaii is some islands. Not a planet.

Are planets like islands? Only bigger?

Does that mean we have to be smarter?

Damn right we do. Something is probably already on the way to eat us. That's why we must maintain a nuclear stockpile. Maybe we can at least get them with the radiation when they eat us, whatever it and/or they is/are.

The horned one and the long nosed monkey are my least favorite. Still I'd hate to see them vanish off the earth.
