This huge pearl is worth over $100 million! He found it and kept it under his bed for 10 years not knowing what it was worth. Not much you can do with a pearl like that except display it. If you cut it up to make jewelry I am sure it will decrease the value. I can't see wearing it as an earring

No, experts have not looked at it yet.

Experts from the University of the Philippines have expressed interest in inspecting the pearl, but she said no date has been set for their visit.

She said that she, the fisherman and his family decided to turn over the pearl to the city mayor, who had it displayed in a glass case in Puerto Princesa's city hall to attract tourists. The fisherman will receive a still-unspecified reward from the local government, Amurao said, adding that he never intended to sell it.

not sure how the laws work but he found it so its his then right?

which means he could have sold it to whoever right?

so he gives it to the city who will break him off a bull# check as a reward...

does not seem like a smart move on his part

The fisherman, his father and brothers found the irregular-shaped pearl inside a giant clam that stuck to their boat's anchor when they sought refuge from a squall on a reef

They found it IN a clam and they still didn't realize it was worth money? They were fisherman for God's sakes. They should know, especially after 10 years of having it, that shiny swirly white things that are worth money come out of clams and oysters.

This place must have no internet or anything. I'm actually kind of glad to know places like this still exist.
