He is furious - rightly so - but is coming across as someone who WOULD be violent. Sorry. He's blown it.
I understand how terrible it must be if he is innocent, but he has not presented himself in the right way.
Shame. His candidacy is totally done.

This. Despite that fact that I don't particularly want him as a SC justice, this should be decided via an FBI investigation, not this public hearing. He is wrecking public perception of him terribly with this.....

Really?

I feel awful for him and angry at the left for doing this to him. He's behaving in the way I would expect anyone put in his position to behave.

If this happened to my family and my husband and he wasn't half to upset, I'd be upset over it.

I think its his vociferous and borderline angry responses which don't lend themselves to convince people that this mild mannered individual isn't potentially prone to violent outbursts or actions. Before this most of the folks I had talked to about him many times mentioned how calm and collected he was for someone accused of a violent crime. This testimony has taken some wind out of that sail I think.

I already said pages up when his statement started that I think at this point he cares less about the nomination that he does about what's being done to his good name and his family.

This is no longer a job interview.

It's a Kafka Trial and his life is on the line. Anyone with half a brain would fight hard.

He started his calendars because his father had them and he fondly remembers him recounting past events. But he says his father started his calendars in 1978, Kavanaugh in 1980...Kavanaugh would have been alive and old enough to know all of those stories he recounts...that doesn't jive with me.

Great opening though, if he's lying - he's amazing.

What doesn't jive?

BK would have been 15.

The way he portrayed it as remembering his father recounting the past, as in his childhood memories, young adult hijinks, whatever...and that's why Kavanaugh was inspired to start his calendars - I don't know, I mean he's convincing. That part just doesn't work for me.

You’re justifying your preconceived decision on his place in these allegations.

A persons life is being dragged through the mud as a part of political motivations to try and prevent something the left doesn’t want to happen, and he’s what? Supposed to just sit back and be ok with it? His family has to watch this happen along with the rest of the world while he defends himself against heinous allegations, and that wouldn’t invoke your deepest emotions?

No, you’re wrong. Absolutely wrong. This is a smear campaign. It’s a weaponized rape allegation. The left should be ashamed of themselves and anyone who can’t see through this embarrassing attempt to block his confirmation is a total fool.

I can promise you that Mazie Hirono won't be moved one bit.

That woman has no heart or soul, imo. She is a vile man hater and she will cut him no slack.

As a matter of fact, I think she is going to try to get him to lose it.

I managed to see Kavanaugh's opening statement.

Did anyone else notice that during his emotional appeals, his cheeks and mouth and nose turned red? That is not physically possible to duplicate. It is 100% involuntary. Even seasoned actors cannot create that effect without makeup. This man is going through absolute disgust at the way he has been treated, extreme turmoil at the support he has received, especially concerning his daughters praying for Ford, and untold anger at the attacks he has undergone.

Ford's opening statement was convincing. But everything she showed emotionally except for nervousness can be turned on and off. Tears even can be voluntarily controlled. Between the two of them, I believe Brett Kavanaugh.

PS: 85 pages? Wow...

I caught most of it, and it was every bit as compelling as Ford's. But his character has been called into question in a very public forum, and I think the only answer is for the FBI to investigate the claims coming forward. I don't think y'all need another Anita Hill scenario.

Brett sounds as genuinely emotional as christine did.

I feel bad for them both.

Possibly, but then he should probably share some anger at the fact that the Republican leadership refuses to have the FBI investigate and clear him of these charges on the almost infinitesimally small chance the Democrats might retake the senate and they lose their pick. Let the FBI exonerate him and then Republican's can go after his accusers with a clear conscious.

Or a man willing to fight for what he believes in and not just whimper away... I think whimpering is more of a 2018 approve thing...

Maybe if he groveled some, ya that is the ticket... A proud man labeled with about the worst labels as one could get, we are talking Jeffrey Dahmer level of labeling by the left...

Ford looked rehearsed but with hints of authenticity. Kavanaugh appears to be "on the fly" authentic.

Very powerful stuff that could and will likely have a lasting impact on legislative and judicial processes.....

I'm anxious for the end.

I'm convinced that someone did something to Ford. But her testimony was definitely rehearsed, and her lawyers/handlers were obviously keeping her on a very short leash. She's a pawn, being used for political purposes. A year from now, if she jumps off the Golden Gate Bridge, not one of those people who were cheering her on will care.

I agree.

I have been saying all the while that I personally dont care that much about him on the court.

But if we give up innocent until proven guilty, this country will be fudnamentally changed.

He has far far more to fight for at this point.

His name, his famioly. He sint rolling over and taking it, and i dont blame him.

If it was me, I would not give a lick about the conformation.

I would fight for mny name and family, and against the disgusting abhorrent scumbags that politicize esex assault allegations.

And I am happyt that is what he is doing
