Why the fuss? Essentially for the past 2000 years the supernatural in all it's forms has been pretty much banished from the world. And then all of a sudden an ancient middle eastern God suddenly makes it's appearance? And says it's time for no more Mr. Nice Guy?

For most people in today's world it's going to look like an episode of Stargate SG-1 where the Ancient Gods overrun the Earth and conquer it. And a lot of them are going to be at the wrong end of a staff weapon.

There is also of course the concept of being spiritually anointed.

There are two possible interpretations of the meaning of "the laying on of hands".

Either way, it looks both creepy and silly at the same time. Grown men standing around in their version of a witches circle. Would be a lot less creepy if they were just your local teenage Goth kids:

seems a bit out of context, doesn't it? maybe a religious figure would be better suited. 'messiah' is a placeholder term... you could go all-in on whoever you want to worship but at the end of the day i'd recommend better on good odds.
