I'd say the "mating net" is being created.

As an avid chess player..

To the novice, a gambit can either " put wind in your sails " or sink your ship.

But,

I can tell you ,at a higher level of play, gambits are anything but risky.

In other words.. If I don't feel like I am going to gain some advantage either way. I would not allow my opponent to make that "choice".

All that remains to be seen is if it's mate in 5 or If the DS has a passed pawn with potential...

Time will tell.

To add to the analogy,

I think what we saw with Ford was an attempt to regain some lost tempo by sacrificing one pawn.

We don't see President Trump making concessions or losing position, on the contrary we have seen his pieces start out not occupying the center but controlling it, allowing no further progress for his opponent.

Then we saw with Korea him drive the opponents front lines back, leaving pawns exposed to be picked of methodically.

With the kavenaugh win we saw president trump gain yet another move of tempo as well as control of the center of the board not just through projection of force but physically,opening new lines of attack.

Now we are seeing the bishops castles and queen of the opponent driven back surrounding there own king (DS) defensively, while President Trump now firmly occupies the center of the board and is projecting force bearing down on the opponents castled king

So IF the plan is real the only real question now is how many moves and which square f8 or h8 the king dies on..
