Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley is giving Christine Blasey Ford until Friday morning to say whether she will take lawmakers up on their offer to testify about her allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Grassley, in a letter to Ford’s attorneys on Wednesday, set a 10 a.m. Friday deadline to respond to the invitation “if she intends to testify on Monday.” “You have stated repeatedly that Dr. Ford wants to tell her story,” Grassley wrote in the letter. “I sincerely hope that Dr. Ford will accept my invitation to do so, either privately or publicly, on Monday.”

Looks like it will be put up or shut up time for the party girl

I've never been raped, thankfully, but I've had three very close calls, and like Ms. Ford, had something happen to interrupt the assault, or I would have been.

I never reported any of them. Too humiliating. I just wanted to get over it and move on with my life.
But if one of those people should turn up running for a high office, I would come forth. I would feel it was my duty as an American patriot.

Even if they are the same political party you adore?

Sorry but I really don't understand this logic.

If the purpose of ever coming forward is to save future victims, then why wait until the person is some higher public official? Just not worth the hassle unless it is at that level....the hell with whomever may be assaulted in the time since it happened to you? I really do not understand this logic at all.

I have seen it from multiple posters here like Dawnstar and others..the same sentiment..exactly...so again...why does it make a diff if they are seeking higher public office versus if they are a manager at McD's abusing other young girls? Is it just not worth the hassle unless it is to briung down a republican?

Right!

If the court system was different, but it isn't.

The accuser gets dragged through the mud.

Single mom, can't miss work, word gets out, etc etc etc.

But, he shows up later for a high political office -- it's a game changer.

where are you getting this information....

a few questions for ya...

when feinstein contacted the FBI about this, is it reasonable to assume that she would have provided whatever evidence she had concerning it to them as well... as in the unredacted letter?
didn't the FBI say that they added it to his file...

by what I understand, anyone on that committee have access to that file, thus they probably have access to the letter.
which, I believe is stated in the democracy now video I linked to awhile back.

Whatever the outcome may be, I am forced to marvel at the sheer diabolical genius of the architects behind this Grand Finale of the Brett Kavanaugh Confirmation Carnival.

Its brilliance resides in its simplicity. It doesn't matter if it's obvious. It doesn't matter if it's predictable. It doesn't matter if it's cynical. It doesn't matter if it's inconsistent. It doesn't matter if it's credible. It doesn't matter if it involves the usual suspects. It doesn't even matter if it's true.

All that matters is that it has successfully delivered its payload.

And without a doubt, it's a bullseye, managing to leverage the #MeToo movement as an ultimate weapon for partisan advantage against which there can be no defense. It hits all the right notes and delivers just the right messages to its intended targets.

Mission accomplished.

Bravo Zulu.

Honestly, if she refuses to testify in a closed private session and provide some evidence if not verifiable facts and or witnesses; Than there is nothing about this allegation to consider any further and his confirmation should be executed. As to any notion that she should be investigated for attempting this with Gorsuch, it's a moot point if she won't testify. If she decides she does, that particular issue and these allegations should be looked into.

Otherwise, it needs dropped and his nomination voted on.

Who wouldn't remember exactly where they were when they were sexually assaulted?

Different situation, but even decades later, I remember during high school, where a party was when I got in a fight with a classmate.

Ford is being intentionally ambiguous, so her claims can never be disproven.

6 FBI background investigations seems to be enough for the FBI. They aren't going to do another.

Looks like we can now move on with the nomination process and further infuriate the Left.

Dirty Politics by the Dems on this.

No wonder why hardly anyone wants to be a public servant anymore. Why get your reputation dragged through the mud?

WRONG.
Fiendstein gave the FBI a REDACTED copy of the original letter.
Ask yourself...WHY would she do that (redact it for the FBI)?

Feinstein turned over a redacted version of the letter to the FBI last week. The FBI then added the letter to Kavanaugh's background file, which was then given to the White House

when feinstein contacted the FBI about this

i didnt know that she had, would you source that please?
i have read that she criticized the FBI but i have yet to read that she inquired about an investigation by the fbi;
pretty slick of her as she gets to criticize without actually discussing jurisdiction or the statue of limitations or the fact that the accuser has no date or crime scene to report.

also since the rep has had this information since july 20th why the delay in calling for the fbi to investigate anything? was it less important july 21st that it is today? if they actually wanted the fbi to look into accusations of a crime with no date and no crime scene why did none of them contact the fbi?

www.sfgate.com...

Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., met July 20 for roughly 90 minutes with Ford

Ford's request for discretion was observed to the point, Eshoo said, that in her office only she and one other senior aide were fully aware of Ford's claims. When Eshoo and Ford mutually decided to take the matter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Ford's letter laying out her account was hand-delivered to a Feinstein aide in Washington, Eshoo said: "In other words, you don't drop it off at the receptionist's desk."

As far as I know that letter has yet to be seen and the letter published came from fords lawyers

The woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault says the FBI should investigate the incident before senators hold a hearing on the allegations.

In a letter addressed to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa, and obtained by CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360," Christine Blasey Ford's attorneys argue that "a full investigation by law enforcement officials will ensure that the crucial facts and witnesses in this matter are assessed in a non-partisan manner, and that the Committee is fully informed before conducting any hearing or making any decisions."

www.cnn.com...

This reeks of a political move.

This is exactly what schumer was saying earlier.

Anything to push the conformation off.

293 days. That is how long Merrick Garland waited after President Obama Nominated him for the Supreme Court. He never even got a meeting with the GOP on judiciary committee. His Nomination finally expired when Trump took office.

What were you saying about "reeks of a political move?"

Everyone should be outraged by this crap, no matter your feelings on trump or kavanaugh.

Direct me to the OP you wrote expressing "outrage" when the GOP refused to even meet President Obama's nominee for a year and I will get back to you about joining in your "outrage" that the Dems are looking to delay a vote a few days for the FBI to follow-up with a further background check just like they did with Clarence Thomas when he was accused.

They haven't accomplished anything of value other than further discrediting their unwanted far-left ideology. Real Americans see what is happening to Judge Kavanaugh and have vowed never to allow Dems back in power - simply because they'd use those same smear tactics continually if they're allowed to work.

Unless Ford has physical evidence/pictures/video/DNA/2+ witnesses/etc then her claim can and will be dismissed. In the end, this dirty Democrat trick will have resulted in less than a week delay - as the confirmation vote was initially schedule for Thurs.

They have not and will not stop us from stacking the SCOTUS to the far right. That will come in handy while we purge the government of Dems by using their own play book against them: false accusations (like we took Franken down with), exposing the truth (by sharing their leaked private secrets ad nauseum) and just generally continuing to "rig" government/public processes to our own benefit (ie: what the left loosely and mistakenly calls "Gerrymandering" and/or vote suppression). At this point, I support my party doing anything it takes to win. To defeat Democrats in all things in the only concern now, and however that has to be done/excused/justified then it is A-OK by me. When your enemy doesn't play the rules, nor should you. And we should thank those worthless Dems at least for that lesson (but for nothing more)

The next Dem President (if there somehow is one) will be treated like a dog, likely impeached before they're seated and 100% obstructed. Our SCOTUS super-majority will support nearly any Republican law, while most likely preventing even a full Democrat government from passing the simplest laws.

As usual, the Dems have given up so much credibility/reputation/etc (what was left of it, anyhow) to gain very little. Like I pointed out, they've gained less than a week. And they've now given us the excuses we need to smear their candidates and generally treat them like dogs. An invitation I'm happy to take them up on.

Doesn't matter. False equivalency.

The Senate majority - who's job it is to confirm - refused to give him a hearing.

The Dems are NOT the Senate majority now (nor were they then).

The majority has the right to conduct the Senate as they see fit. And again, Obama wasn't a real POTUS so there would be no point in even going through the motions. No, our party made the right choice by waiting for an actual President/a real American to hear a nomination.

Further, Garland was not subjected to false claims/interruptions/etc. Besides, he was a moderate/liberal justice so of course we weren't going to confirm him. Has the left lost its mind? Well...of course it has, but still.

Obvious.
They (she and her attorney) know the FBI already rejected this.
This is a ploy to avoid testifying under oath...because it's a fraud...and been a fraud since it was floated.

The FBI did not reject this?

The chairman of the Judicial Committee needs to send the President an addendum including the accusation.
Grassley has done this.
The President needs to tell the FBI to follow up and include an addendum to the background check.

That is exactly what happened with the Clarence Thomas accusation.

President Bush sr. told the FBI to follow up for the background check and they got it done in 3 days.

If Trump would tell the FBI to follow up, they could have it done before Monday.

Also - Why doesn't the GOP want Mark Judge, the other guy allegedly in the room, to testify? He has already told reporters he doesn't remember it happening, it should be a slam dunk for the GOP to have him say the same under oath and testify as to the character of Kavanaugh.

This should be easy for the GOP to knock out. Have Mark Judge testify along with Kavanaugh that it never happened. Have the FBI talk to folks that attended the party and they can explain it never happened. Easy Peasy.

Why not do what was done for Clarence Thomas?

No, it isn't FBI's job to investigate alleged 35 year old allegations of State law violations. Further, sexual assault is NOT a federal crime under FBI's jurisdiction. It is also NOT a reason to delay the confirmation vote, since impeachment is a remedy available to Congress should Ford somehow be able to prove her allegations in the future.

In all cases: more than just "her good word" is needed.

Either way, if she has evidence she'll need to present it to LOCAL state law enforcement officials not FBI. There is no federal law against sexual assault, therefore the federal government has no jurisdiction therein. So Ford's REQUEST for an FBI investigation is merely a delay tactic, sort of like saying "I'll testify under oath to the Senate when pigs can fly"

The Senate's job is to investigate Kavanaugh. If she has evidence, the SENATE would be the appropriate body to deliver it to. Or again, to local state law enforcement IF the statute of limitations has not already expired. That's the problem with waiting.

To be clear, the FBI has no role in the confirmation process minus instances where the POTUS directs & orders FBI/DOJ to conduct background investigations. Otherwise, the appointments clause specifically ordains the POTUS as the person responsible for nominations and the Senate as the body responsible for investigation/confirmation. Again, FBI has no role outside their background investigation if/when directed & ordered by the President. FBI does not investigate alleged violations of state law.

Yes, brown people can be "real" Presidents too, just like "effen moron(s)" like Trump. It is America.

Thanks for the transparency and articulating perfectly the integrity fail of the GOP.

Good luck selling that in Nov and 2020 and onward.

Sure it is. It is standard background check.
For example, any illegal drug use at any age is immediately disqualifying for Federal Judges.
They turn down Judges all the time.
Sexual Assault allegations at any age are fully within the scope of background checks for Federal Judges.
The President needs to ask the FBI to follow up, just like President Bush sr. did with Clarence Thomas.

Shows how week and pathetic your argument really is. The fact you had to resort to your typical whiny race-baiting BS tells me all I need to know. I won't even justify your tripe reply with a serious answer, it doesn't warrant it. I didn't mention your precious "race" one single time. You lefties, OTOH, are obsessed with race/all things race/all race-all the time 24/7/365. Very strange, actually. Very.

Instead, I'll point out against that socialist Osama-Bin-Obama did nothing but apologize for America, inflame race relations (set back at least 100+ years), destroy our military credibility, suppress the Constitution, shed fake crocodile tears and generally stick his nose into every single pop-culture happenstance.

I like President's that don't apologize for America's greatness/exceptionalism.

Standard background check, sure, which has already been completed. News flash: Kavanaugh passed

Again, the Constitution makes the nomination/confirmation appointment process very clear and must be followed to very very precise measurements of each letter of the Constitution. It specifies the President who is responsible for nominations and the SENATE who is responsible for confirming the nominations.

The FBI is not even mentioned, for obvious reasons. But since FBI works directly for & under President Trump's authority the only way they investigate anything is if he specifically orders & commands it. Barring his direct orders to FBI/DOJ, they have no reason to conduct another background investigation when they've already cleared him.

again, FBI is an executive branch agency (like 99% of ABC agencies including DOJ). They work directly for the POTUS, and report directly to him through the AG/US.
